byebye Ground Control/Koni, hello JIC FLTA2

Finally got my last JIC warantied. SO today we slapped them in. Rite now i have them about 2.5" lowered all around, same as with my ground control/Konis. Setting at 8 all around. These coilovers handle SOOO much better then the old setup. Most is because of increased suspension travel. overall ride quality is about the same if not better then Ground Control/Koni. I like my car a lil more now....yay

I love the adjustable strut body. You can get all the suspension travel while having super short strut body.

here's somethign interesting

when i turn left i get a clickclickclick noise juss like the sound you get when a CV joint is bad. cept that my boot isnt ripped. it only happens when im on throttle, if i make a turn and let off the gas the sound goes away. Im trying to figure out between the CV joint and rack and pinion.

how much did those bad boys cost you? I have the setup you had before, and as much as I like 'em on the track there is no travel on them at all, bottoming out is almost too easy

I wish I had the money to get those

I've been chasin' down a similar deal on my car and finally found it
to be the engine mounts. Your case is a bit different in that it's
only present when turning left (does sound like CV or rack). Anyhow,
I verified it by setting the parking brake, shifting to first and
manipulating the clutch to place load/torque on the mounts. I had
finally made it repeatable, made a visual inspection and voila. So,
I now have my homemade poly-filled mounts (thanks Eric) and should
know by the end of the week for certain that it resolved the issue.
Just a thought to keep in mind.

This also looks to be the same source for the creaking noise I heard
in first gear and under cornering situations. That turned out to be
the CAI tubing getting moved as the engine moved as well. I created
the problem at low speed, had a friend put a hand on the CAI tube and
the sound completely changed.

So, I'd suggest starting with a check of the mounts. If not them
then I'd move to the other goodies on the list.

Cheers,

JK

well, i doubt its the motor mounts cause i have polyurethane ones. thanks for the suggestion tho. ill take a look into it but i honestly think its more the joint or rack.

Matthel

How noisy are these? Do they pop, creak, etc...?

Do they rattle over bumps when the body lifts?

Is the steering smooth and unaffected?

Thanks.

Actually I was faster when it was partly wet(rain is always an equalizer)but when it was dry I was only about a second behind, I was doing 1.31 and he was 1.30. But this is all from some kid with a stop watch.

I almost rear ended him a few times because he braked so early. Oh well, too much money no talent. It was driven by some guy that didn't look older then 20.

I was not aware that the FLTA2 was available for the 95-99? They dont have it listed on their website. I was going to buy the sa-1's but if the FLTA2 is available them im gonna get those instead. I dont know if this is known or not but you can order custom spring rates with the jic's for extra charge until the end of this year, after that they are gonna start charging, or at least whats they told me when I emailed them.

Hmm that's weird I had that clicking noise too. My dad has a shop so I had them swap the cv's but it still did it. then I replaced the wheel bearings. Then I replace the support axel bearing and IT STILL DID IT!! At that point I was like what the Hell!!!

Then I started wondering if it's cuz I'm getting the CV's rebuilt and they aren't new. I haven't bought new ones yet because im getting the JIC's first.

But here's something you can try Mathel lower your car even more and drive slow. See if you here the clicking noise even more.

When I had the GC's I lowered the max pretty low and my axles clicked going straight!! at about 2-3 mph.

The only thing I haven't done is bought new axles.

Hey just out of curiosity you might want to make sure all your motor mount bolts are tight. Do you think it could be bushings? Maybe as you accelerate you're putting pressure on something.

I'm about to order my axles today and hope my noise goes away. The wierd thing is when I set the coils high I don't here clicking as much.

but this thread makes me believe that I'm somebody :sniff sniff:

The only thing I'm disappointed with JIC coilies is that they didn't come with poly mounts so I borrowed some from a Tein SS coily setup
