**highway run with a 350z**
Friday night I was driving down to visit my brother at his school. I came upon a black 350z with HIDs....MAN THAT CAR IS BEAUTIFUL.
Anyway, the guy driving it is about 50...and I try to bait him for a bit....he doesn't bite. So I just set the cruise control again and mind my own business, and all of the sudden he comes up next to me. I give him the thumbs up, and he hits it. I'm in 5th gear so I just hang back and he lets off right away.
I downshift to 3rd at ~70mph (sweet spot in 3rd, ESPECIALLY with the VI). He looks at me...I look at him, and we both hit it. Amazingly I put about 3/4 of a carlengh on him up to 110mph where he lets off. I couldn't believe I just beat a 350z!!!!!
He came up again and we both waved and he give me a thumbs up a smiles.
I was probably an automatic...but who knows, a lot of new 350z 6-speeds are trapping about what I trap in the 1/4. Anyway....believe it or not guys...a bolt-on max is "capable" of hanging with and possibly taking out a 350z.

bolt ons??
intake, exhaust, vi, and what else?
And mind you, auto 350Z at that unhealthy speed and at that ridiculous gear ratio plain $Ucks.
Good run.
Now ready for 1990 300ZX TT with couple bolt ons??
(their twin pop and exhaust + ecu boost 80-100 HP)

their 5-speed auto should be just fine at highway speeds.
I never said I could take on any Z....I was just impressed with how my 4-door Nissan sedan fared against Nissan's new sports car

That's why I want to race one, see how I'll do. I don't care even if I do lose to a 350Z, I bet I will shock the heck out of the 350Z guy. Btw, I think my car is capable of doing better than a 14.1, maybe a 13.999 if I could ever get the launch down right.

I know, but I want to do the best that I can and see if I can get into the 13s without slicks or drag radials. I'm sure I can, but just need to get a good launch, maybe get it down to a 2.1 60', I think that should be enough to get me into the 13s.

Exactly....the 350z is faster than our cars STOCK vs. STOCK...
It's just like saying a vette should be faster than a civic....but there are MODDED civics out there that will hand a vette it's @ss. Does that make you mad too???

i was just saying what isn't SUPPOSED to happen. What if a sentra beat a skyline gtr? It's just not supposed to happen.
Don't get me wrong, it's really cool seeing these things but according to the laws of the universe, this is abnormal.

Since we're on the subject I'll rant a little about the progression of the sports cars coming form japan.
This 350z is just as fast as the eight year old car that it replaces. However, the tuning of the 300zTT would be much easier since it already has forced induction, bottom line, put 3,000 in both and the eight year old car would waist the new car.
Cars that I Loved that are now not in production
Nissan 300zTT (skyline too, but we never got that)- now they have a normally aspirated car that is no where near as striking (as in different, it seems that Nissan went totally vanilla with their design, it looks just like everyother modern car now, Altima, Cadillac, Celica etc.) or beutifull as the Z-TT was when it was introduced.
Toyata Supra and MR 2 - Now their top performer is the celica
Mitsubishi GSX, VR-4 - Now it's the normally aspirated V6 eclipse which runs in the 15 second range
Mazda RX-7 - Now their zoom zooming in the protege
Japanese cars used to come with turbo's which made them easier to work on, and today the top performers still run 14 second 1/4's, most of the manufacters top performers are running 15's. That sucks when top european cars are running 11-12, and top American cars are running solid 12's.
But I'm turning into more of a sports sedan man, my favorites are RS6, M5, CL-S, GS430 and of course the mighty Max.

The last gen TT's were way over 40K just plain out of the price range of most enthusiasts. You now get stock for stock somewhat identical straight line performance, and superior handling in the 350Z and for thousands less. The aftermarket for the new Z car is going to be crazy to say the least, don't rule out FI just yet either, just do some trolling on my350Z.com. Too bad I prefer a sedan to a coupe because the 350Z is the best deal on the market. The guy on Autoweek called it "a Porshe for Chevy money" Nissan has hit a grand slam with the new Z.........

It's just that if you don't think about it you wouldn't realize that if every car manufacter brought it's sports car to compete in a sports car shoot out, some of japans would be mazda protege, mitsubishi eclipse, and toyota celica. These cars would be put up against Vipers, Vettes, and Cobra's, and 911-TT's, Lambo's, M-BMW and Ferrari's.
That has nothing to do with value, it's just embarrising from a performance standpoint. BTW, car and driver tested the new neon SRT-4 that is 19,900, it ran a 14.2. The 350 in the same issue ran a 14.3, and the S2000 ran a 14.5. Only a WRX will be able to beat a NEON stock out of the top performers from japan (excluding the expensive NSX) A neon is no where close to what a manufacters top performer should be.
But I think that japan does make the best all around sports sedan

Publications have gotten it in the 11's with simple pulley swaps, intake, and Mickey Thompson Tires. Pulling 11's for well under 40,000 and having a very nice new car just my .02

BTW...the only reason a WRX could keep up with that new SRT-4 neon down the 1/4 mile is because of it's AWD LAUNCH. The WRX only traps 93-94 mph in the 1/4...whereas the new SRT-4 traps 101-102mph...the SRT is WAY faster than a WRX.
