Attn: Jay25 and Kev - V2 plate grinding issue, please read & help

Last night Delio and I put my blower back on my car with the 3.25" pulley. I took a dremel to the parts of that plate that are suposed to rub against the belt. I believe I shaved enough off, but I wasnt sure. This morning and last night the belts were making a little more noise then usual. I dont know if I shaved enough off the plate. Can anyone help out with a 3.25" pulley or smaller that has shaved the V2 plate and if so how much did you grind off? In looking at the belt this morning while the car was running I couldnt see but it looked kinda like the belt was touching the plate. Again I am not sure but this is the only prob I can think of. If anyone has had this prob with the V2/pulley and a belt noise please help me out.

also please check your emails Jay and Kev about this subject for more detail

thanks

Jay

Do you see any rubber belt residue around that area? Do you even smell burnt rubber? If you do then for sure it is rubbing.

I believe I saw a little residue around the part of the plate that I thought it might be rubbing. If I need to shave more off the plate do I need to take off the entire blower or car i just losen the belt?

I'm still using the stock pulley size so I'm not able to advise you on this one.

If you see more belt residue then remove the complete supercharger and regrind the plate some more. That will make your car make a very annoying noise. I sent Delio a email but just saw your post. It should not take you more then four hours to do this thing. I shaved about 1/4 inch off the plate. You can check it before you put it on. put the belt attach the blower on the plate and just two of the allen bolts to hold the blower on the plate. Install the idler pulley and route the belt as if it was on the car. Check to see if the belt still touches the plate while pulling on the belt as hard as you can. I hope you understand what I am trying to tell you by reading this. A 5 Min check will save you 4-5 hours of headaches.
Page me if you want 1 888 919 5344. Or call me at this number and ask for Sgt Rodriguez 770 941-6096 or 770 941-6160. Call me ASAP

thanks alot man, I will talk to Delio about this and look at the car closer when it stops raining. Is it possible to losen the belt and get a dremel in to grind down the plate more instead of removing the whole blower?

Hell oooh no, theres no way seriously! but you can try. I say its impossible. If you dont grind it evenly the you will shred the belt over time. You have to remove the blower again and grind it evenly. If there was a short cut Id tell you but I dont forsee that.

what did you use to grind it down? and if it was a dremel what bit did you use? Also if the plate does have a little black residue on it from the belt do you suggest a new belt?

the dremel is fine it is a perfect fit, but my spring cutter did the job , my dad just bought me a brand new bench grinder at a garage sale for $10. I also acquired a brand new reciprocal saw , it was a good deed type gift.

Well folks I found out that the belt is rubbing against the plate. I am going to try and losen the belt and get a dremel down there to grind a little more of the plate away but if they doesnt work I will have to take the blower out of the car again

I will let you know what happens....

good news guys the noise is gone. I fixed the rubbing problem. What I had to do was since the dremel was too thick to get between the belt and the plate I had to take a hand file and file down the part of the plate the belt was touching. I first losened the idler pulley and slid the belt off the pulley on top on the blower. After that I started grinding away at the plate where it was rubbing with a rough file. I took off a good amount and its not touching anymore. Then touched it up with a fine file so it was smooth just incase.

thanks for all you help Delio,Jamie and Kevin

Thanks Jay! Btw thanks for your PM last night. I'm going to do the same as you and leave the car in the garage. I'll be out of town for 3 weeks anyways and that should be ample time for Vortech to fix the blower.

make sure when you send them the blower to take off the little oil lines cause you will not see them again if you send them to Vortech. Also call and get an RA# before you send it out. Jamie was pretty nice to me when I spoke with him. Another thing after you send it out 2-3 day call Vortech and make sure they got it and also call a week later for an update which I did. Jamie actually told me my blower was fine and that it wasnt leaking one day and the next day he told me they changed the seals and bearings. I thought to myself thats funny I thought you said there werent any leaks. oh well it was fixed and sent back but you are looking at 3 weeks. email me at nymjayjay@aol.com for anymore info of questions about it.

Another thing, is your blower under warranty and if not did they say how much it was going to cost to fix it?

listen man send your blower directly to Vortech. Tell them you can take the plate and the pulley off the blower. They took mine after I told them that without much trouble. I know they say your warranty is through stillen and the only reason because they dont want to deal with the plate and the pulley which isnt hard to remove. Talk to Jamie over there and ask him if you take off the plate and pulley if they will take it then you dont have to pay an arm and a leg for shipping and you can get it back in 3 weeks rather then 6......

I just broke out my allen socket set and found all of the right sockets for the mounting bolts. I'm going to take it off tomorrow night.
It looks like I'll have to take off the intake tube from the front in order to get access to the bolt next to the water pump.
I picked up a 7/32s allen socket from Sears for the bolts that hold the blower onto the mounting plate. I gave it a twist with the ratchet and the piece didn't seat well and you know what happened next...shoot!! Looks like I'll have to find a garage to air tool it off.

I should have told you to be careful with the hex bolts on the plate. They strip easily and if they have never been taken off before they do have locktight from stillen on there. Before I sent my blower to Vortech I had to bring the blower/plate to a machine shop cause air tools couldnt even take off the bolts since they had locktight and they were stripped. It ended up costing me $100 to have the machine shop drill through 2 of the bolts that Delio and I couldnt break lose.

You should call stillen and re-order the 7ish bolts that go on the plate if you have stripped a few, or just order the ones you stripped while the blower is off the car.

Good luck and let me know whats up, also today I WILL take pics of the plate with the grinded part so people on the org with V2's know how much and where to grind when the plate is off the blower

Will stillen sell you these bolts if you do strip them? Let me know. Shadow may need to get his pulley bolt replaced. SOB is stripped. I think I have one too but I worked with it very slowly.

i grounded aLOT off my v2 bracket. #%@#%

and then when i put on the belt. it still wasnt' enough

so i just loosened the belt, and using my snake attachment for my dremel and a shop vac, just dremeled the bracket while it was on the car, and just kept the belt hella far away from the dremel.

i seriously had to shave off more than 5mm.

I just shaved off about a little less then 1/4 of an inch with a dremel when the plate was out of the car. I am in the process of putting the plate back in the car right now with the blower. I will post pics either tonight or tomorrow of the plate.

p.s. where did you get that dremel extension?

also that 55mm bolt that goes directly behind the pulley do not install that bolt. That bolt alone takes about 45-1 hour to remove making the install and uninstall a bischhhh. Just my 02. cents. It has a 10mm head on it.
