ohh yeah you would smoke him, go ahead, maybe you can blind him with the hyperwhites when you see his tails. Jk Seriously the Gt has what 260 hp and in the 5 speed , you have no shot. So sorry, hehe

97 were 220-230approx. unless you got the cobra, then 305 and look out. My 96 svt was a blast to drive, but mustangs and carseats dont mix well. Oh yeah you aint gonna beat a gt 5sp or auto sorry.

well nevermind what i wrote, autotrader states the 97 mustang gt has only 215 hp. Hmm 215 hp out of a 8 . That sucks, what a waste of gas and money

lets not forget those 4.6 v8s might only have 220 or so HP, but gotlike 320 ftlb torque. You'd be toast off the line. With a supercharger, you'd be more competitive.

The GT is equipped with a 4.6-liter single overhead cam V-8, rated at 215 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque, thats what Road and track reported

Mustang thumbs down

You need some mods first.. Get an intake, it costed me a hundred bucks with some cheap filter. You'll hear the roar of your engine. Get the piping done on your maxima. I went with greddy catback. costed 600.00 any how you should be able to give him some competition. I m the guy who races his maxima at the santa ana street races..Oh, mustangs are pretty crappy especially during acceleration. They lack horsepower.Need more ponies. Ironic?

yo guys

listen.. 97 GT 5spd
if you are a good driver you have a good shot of keeping up .. i don't know about beating him but you'll keep up ...

As far as modding.. why don't you remind your uncle that your driving a heavy 4 door family sedan not a 2door sports car like him..

and if you do get some decent mods you will beat him..

don't let people tell you it's got 543298057342957 lbft of torque and 4875489375 hp .. who cares ?
just a friendly race.

Ant

I've raced quite a few 96-98 GTs (5 speed and auto) and I usually end up walking them a little on the topend. However, earlier this week I ran a 98 auto GT convertible twice and he kept right up with me to 80mph in the 2nd race. I thought for sure I'd pull him. Why you ask? Because I always pull fairly hard on automatic 87-93 5.0 GTs that have a bit more hp, torque, and are lighter than the 95-98 GTs. Point is you never know what you are gonna get.

Give it a shot. Your uncle may be in for a big surprise when he isn't able to pull on you like he thinks. If he is a good driver and you are stock, he'll clean your clock on the launch and then probably won't be able to outun you any further. If you've got mods and can drive, it's anyone's race.
