Modding dilema...

I've recently got my VB done 3 days ago, and have a high flow cat and springs sitting in my room. I spoke to my dad today and the lease on his car is up in a year, and he will be taking mine. Do you think it's worth putting these mods on if im only going to have the car for another year? If I put the cat on, I will also go for the y-pipe. Im not doing these mods myself, and would have to pay for labor. Also note that id make the car stock again when I give it to my dad. What to do...

So basically, would you start modding a car if you were only going to have it for another year, and then convert back to stock?

So your dad and you are basically switching cars in a year? What kind of car will you be receiving?

Yay ... a Geo Metro

Back to the topic, a year will go by in no time, I wouldn't bother putting it in if I had paid for it, unless your dad would appreciate it. Might as well use the $$$ for your next car.

The lease is up on his grey I30, so I think we will be sharing mine. He takes train to work during the weekday now, so we no longer need 3 cars. He needs it for work on weekends though. Also my mom has a car, so he feels no need to have 3 cars. I don't think I can get away with the suspension if I put it on, specially in NYC. (dad already says my car has a rougher ride than his) I might leave the performance on if he won't mind it.

What you could do is just wait and mod the next car, but to appease your mod bug for now you could buy mods that are transferrable (sp?). If you think hard I'm sure you can find some mods that would swap over even though there is a generation difference between the two cars (I am correct in the straight forward assumption that the I30 generations change at the same time the maxima generations do...?)

Just to clarify, He has a leased 2001 and I (we) own my 2001. The grey one is going back to dealer, would be insane to buy the car (they rape you after a lease) It's not the mods itself, because I can always sell them, but the labor charges to put them on, and then take them off.

Oh! They are both 01's, I missread a little back there. Thought your current I30 was a little older. I would go ahead and pick up some mods and then just transfer them to the new car when your dad gives it to you. Maybe work on suspension or something first, or something that won't void the warranty and can easily be undone and put back to stock form. You can always sell the parts on here later and make some of your money back if you ever buy something completely new.

Here's an idea. I wouldn't buy any new mod parts and I would buy my own car even if it was a POS. It's going to suck having part time access to a vehicle. Trust me, you will be hating life and you will envy your friends who OWN their cars even if it's a clapped out Honduh.

Not really...I share my parent's cars and it works out fine. I have no reason to own my own car. I take public transportation on the weekdays (even if I had a car, I would still have to take public transportation) and I just need the car on the weekends, when one is usually free at that time.

In some situations, it works out better and you save money.

Ok how about this; do you think my dad would notice the mods? He is a conservative driver (barely goes over 3000 rpm) Right now it has intake and VB. I would be getting springs, and y-pipe with cat. Anyone have parents drive your cars? Do they say anything?
