y-pipe disadvantages??

I'm fixin to buy a budget y-pipe and was just wondering if there are any disadvantages of it?, I know gas mileage will go down cause if i keep accelerating fast but what if i was to drive it normally?, would gas mileage still go down?..and i did try to search, i just couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance.

It increases effieciency which in tern increases fuel economy. Mostly with the addition of an intake as well. Under normal driving you should get better gas mileage.

youll lose a little low end from the y pipe....up top, it surely makes up for the loss down low

No you won't. Y pipe gives gains throughout the entire power band.

Only downside to the y pipe is that your first couple tanks of gas are gonna go by very quickly

More noise

Slightly more vibration while accelerating thru the gears. This is because the flex sections aren't as long as the stock flex sections therefore more engine vibration is transmitted thru the car.

Dave

How much louder are they? Is it worse at interstate speeds? Been giving serious consideration to a y, but don't want to kill the (fairly) quiet high-speed ride.

The gain you will get from the ypipe will make you forget about any disadvantages very quickly.

You won't be able to hear it at all at highway speeds...and besides that it is almost unnoticable at ANY speed.

hmm I have a WSP y-pipe and it doesn't have any more vibration than it did when stock. I have rode in a maxima with a cattman y and know what you are talking about though.

I guess it is because wsp puts a longer flex section in??

I have the WSP Y-pipe and use to have the Stillen. The Stillen was much worse vibration wise. I'm not saying the vibration is bad, I was just saying it's not like stock. In stock form, the engine is velvetly smooth, but with a y-pipe you can feel a little engine vibration thru the accelerator pedal while accelerating. That's just experience

I think I know what you are talking about now. During acceleration I can feel a little more gubble and vibration. Very faint.

I can feel vibration thru the cabin, up my leg, and to my a$$. I say get it, but keep your stock exhaust. I went with Apex-i and WSP y-pipe and it's a bit loud.

With my setup (See Sig below), there is a little more noise between 1000-2000 rpms. Like a low rumble kind of sound. Once you get over 2000 rpms the car sounds just like normal.
