how many miles with synthetic

I have been running mobil 1 synthetic and just realized I shouldn't be changing it at 3k intervals, anyways, I just changed it yest with new mobil 1 syntheic and nissan oem filter, how many miles will this last me?

P.S. I have a SC, if that affects anything

I go 6k miles with Mobil 1 syntetic in the Maxima. I feel safe at this mileage, and the price is about the same as changing the oil/filter every 3k with the regular stuff.

Good Luck!

The SC does change things. It places a lot more stress on the motor which in turn takes it out on the oil. You're best bet would be to take a sample to have it analyzed next time. This will give you a better idea of how you're engine is handling the supercharger and how long it is safe to go for how you drive. Most of the drain interval information you'll find on here won't really apply since not many people have a car like you.

6K miles at the most. I do 5K miles interval with my max on Mobil 1. It's just easier to keep track than 6K miles interval

I would tend to agree with the 5k interval, though I pushed my dino-oiled 4th gen to 6k last time. I don't do the synth because I figure a) there are other things I can use the $ for and b) if it needed it Nissan would have filled it with it to begin with. Wonder if they fill the 350Z with Mobil 1 or not? I think Nissan is cheap and probably wouldn't put Mobil 1 in even a Q45, but I may be wrong. No question synthetic is superior in every way, shape or form over dino juice but they have no more ability to fight dirt, which is the motor's enemy.

I drive 85 miles to work and back everyday. I use Mobil 1 and I change my oil about every 10,000 miles. I am not recommending it, that's just what I do.

Since you have a supercharger I would stick with Mobil 1 or Amsoil synthetic, and change the oil around 3k. If you want to try to get more life out of the oil your best bet is to get it analyzed and bump up the mileage from there.

Since my car is NA I ran 6k on Mobil 1 with no problems (per my oil analysis). Now I'm running Amsoil 10k with a filter change midway.

Here are my two sample reports. http://members.verizon.net/~vze4yqyk/blackstone_oil.htm
I have a third with Redline 10w30, I went 8500 mostly highway miles, they recomended I try 6000 because lead and aluminum were high, and the oil was varnished

I change my Mabil 1 @ every 3k miles. Then again, non of my cars were ever stock and they see a lot of local/track driving.

I always take notice to the viscosity of the oil when drained. It gives you a good idea of how well the oil is holding up.

If you read Bill's Oil Analysis Compilation you will find that Mobil One intervals range from 3000 (all city) to 7000+ (all highway). Adjust your range accordingly based on where and how you drive. The biggest enemy of motor oil are short trips.

I think i'm going to go for 4k and get it examined.

Another one joining the dark side of oil analysis. Caution - Many have shown that this can be very addictive

with a turbo car i have been advised and do change every 3000, not a mile more... just because of the turbo being soo hot and the use of the oil - i would guess it is the same with supercharger?

granted i know studies can be done to prove more miles, etc... id rather pay the little extra and just be ultra safe, nothin like having to shell out an extra 1000 for a new turbo or something, yuck

Regardless of your stance on drain intervals, I highly recommend anyone here using a blower, turbo, or happy juice to at least take an initial baseline sample and then a subsequent sample to see how your car is responding to the mod(s). It will help determine if the motor is healthy enough for forced induction and/or isn't having issues handling it.

A turbocharger have hot exhaust gas blowing through it, which really cooks the oil that lubricates the unit.

Synthetic oil stands up to this extreme heat much better than conventional. If the turbo is brought up into the boost very often, synthetic is pretty much a 'must have'.... else you'd better by changing the conventional oil around every 1500 miles, as extreme heat is an oil's worst enemy.

Using a good synthetic oil with a turbocharger allows the drain interval to be extended to around 3000 miles for most applicatons.

Due to the increased oil temperatures, I'd be inclined to use a slightly heavier synthetic with a turbocharger.

Even though some superchargers do share the engine's oil, superchargers don't have exhaust gas blowing through them, so they don't get as hot as turbos, and aren't as hard on the oil. But, synthetic is still a very good idea.

Good Luck!
