They only made them for a year or two. There was a pic of one not too long ago...look back a few pages on the General Forum...you might find it

1984 Maxima

I think someone owns a 1981 Maxima on this board. My dad owns the 1984 Maxima. He bought it used back in 1992 I think. It's a two tone silver and still has pretty shiny paint (original paint). It still runs great, except it's been giving us a lot of problems for the last year, so we're going to sell it soon. The engine is an inline 6 (I believe it was from one of the Z cars), so it's still pretty powerful compared to the new Corollas (4-cylinder) because it has more torque. Unfortunately, it weighs almost 3000lbs so it takes awhile for the car to get up to speed. As for roominess, it's a little big larger than current Corollas.
Back then the Maxima competed with the Toyota Cressida (discontinued in 1992 I think), which was replaced by the Avalon. The Maxima was always a sports sedan.

I'll try to post some pics once I have time.

Someone got this from a sales brochure:
84 maxima hp and torque
from '84 maxima sales brouchre:
curb weight -------------- 2880 lbs
fuel capacity ------------ 16.4 gal
horsepower@5200 rpm ------ 120
torque@2800 rpm ---------- 134

This may be out in left field somewhere, but did the Maxima ever have a talking dash? Like, I remember riding in a really old Max (like '85 or so) when I was around 10, and there was a voice that said "The door is ajar, the door...". It might have been a Cressida, but I'm pretty sure it was a Maxima. Any help?

Yup, the Maxima talks.

It's a female voice (forgot how the 85 sounded like). Here are some of the stuff it says:

*bing* "Key is in the ignition" (when you open the driver's door)
"lights are on" (no brainer)
"fuel is low" (I think it says this, haven't heard it)

Dunno if it says "door is ajar," but I think it says that if a door is open and the car is going faster than 5mph. I don't think the Cressida talks, so we have a low budget KITT..just missing the red lights up front.
