All this talk about Hi pef All season tires has me thinking......
Ok...A little history with my car/my self.
I started out with a bone stock 93GXE w/38K. Soft suspension.
At 50K I added Eibach/tokico. But I had the ****test old a/s crap tires. Needless to say, the car rode a fair amount harder, but not much handling increase....the tires just couldn't hold on.
Then a couple thousand miles later, I got some Dunlop sp4000 A/S. They were pretty quiet, rode well, but honestly....no grip. NOW...I did still have the stock 205/65 15 size. Thats a big sidewall....thats bound to roll hard under a heavy turn.
Finally about a year and a half ago I got my z rims with 225/50 16's. Sp8000's. That combo did wonders. 1. More tire on the ground, 2. WIDE Z rims so the tire sits really well on the rim, and 3. A true SUMMER ONLY tire.
What I want to know is can I get all of the grip with a high perf all season that I can get with the sp8000's? I do like em, but they are loud, coarse sounding at speeds under 5mph, and have been so since day one.

the tire that I have which is the best tire for the money and is rated higher then more expensive tires is Dunlop SP Sport A2

if you look on any review sites or read the reviews of the tirerack you will see that this is one of the best things you could buy, and I personally LOVE these tires, I put them on my rims and yesterday I was going through medium rain at 80 mph on RT 3, which right now is a construction route, so it goes left right, bumps up and down and the tire showed no sign of loosing the control. I also tried breaking from 80 to see if I have good brakes and I felt very confident riding them.

I think you could. I don't think the sp8000s are a very new tire tech anymore? Tire tech is like computer tech in a way. Every year it gets better. There are A/S tires that probably perform better than "performance only" tires of 5 years ago. How long have the sp8000s been available?

I run the SP8000 in the summer. They stick like glue, ride is pretty good and wet roads aren't a problem either. Old tire technology??? Perhaps, but there much better in the performance area then most out there. Noisy, you bet, but take a sweeper at 70 MPH and the smile they put on your face is out weighs the noise factor big time!
When the SP8000 come off, the Sport A2's go on. It's like a completely different car when that happens, but the handling is still excellent even going from 235/45/17 to 215/55/16.
Give the Sport A2's a shot, I'd love it if Dunlop made them in 235/45/17, I'd stick them on my 17X8's and run them all year long.
