New dyno numbers

I went to Swift Racing here in the DC area and did a quick three pulls on their dyno. My AFR needs a bit more tuning but its close enough for a base line before I do a full 3" Y-pipe and exhaust. I added a 2.62" pulley which gave peak boost of 13.5psi. I replaced the 2.5" crossover pipe with a 3" version. Replaced the HKS SSQ BOV with a Vortech Mondo BOV. I ported the MAF. I installed a 70mm throttle body and ported the intake manifold to match. I had to upgrade to 370cc injectors from a 96 300ZXTT. My FMU disc is now just a 3:1. I am using the J&S Ultra Safeguard to control some minor detonation above 10psi. It looks like I gained ~35hp & 35 ft/lbs in the midrange. I am happy with the gains but still need to change my exhaust. The current set up is a 2.5" Stillen Y pipe, 2.5" test pipe, 2.5" Courtsey B pipe and a tiny but quiet 2.25" variable capacity muffler from a 2000 Maxima. I should gain ~20-30hp & tq from a full 3" exhaust. Its on order so hopefully we will know soon.

Showing ~13.5psi on the boost gauge at redline.

Matt isnt the A/F ratio a bit low after 5600rpm? If you brought that closer to 11.5:1 wouldnt that alone bring the hp up a bit more?

Do you have an S-AFC or just the J&S for the knocking?

I thought you'd gain a little more than that with extra 4psi.

The numbers look good. Imagine what the HP would be if you had a 7k redline. BTW how is the motor holding up? Any problems?

Swift has a package price for three pulls for $55.00, so I didnt have the pulls to get the AFR done exactly like I would have wanted it using my Fields AFC. After I install the 3" exhaust I will go back and get it tuned better. It just wasnt worth it to pay for more pulls since I will be redoing it in a litle while.

I thought it would be a little more with 4psi more. The need for a larger exhaust is really shown by this.

MEVI? Yes!

The AFR tuning realy only helps the midrange. It may be an indication that an intercooler is needed The rich mixture cools the boosted air so leaning it out seems to not really work.

Re: New dyno numbers

I threw that dyno into cartest and it shows that with a 2.1x 60' you should run 13.0-13.1s @ 108-110mph on the motor. Also with a 6800rpm rev limiter your ET would be 1-2 tenths quicker and you'd add 1-1.5mph trapspeed too. You shouldn't fear the LS1s either, well at least the ones without heads/cams, from a roll that is hehe.

I only have a .jpg of it, I have to go back and get the data files so I can set it to match the other dynos. The smoothing on my older dyno is set at 5, this is at one so the power is lower. My old 319/265 dyno would show 313hp/260tq if the smoothing was set at 1. Apples to apples I gained ~23hp/26tq, so my new peak numbers set at the same smoothing level as the previous dyno would be ~342hp/301tq. I should have the data files next week so I can compare apples to apples. But the bottom line is I need a larger exhaust, the 2-1/4"2k muffler is choking me allot. With any luck I should have the 3" exaust set up from Warpspeed on some time in December and will re dyno then. I think I will pick up at least ~20hp/20tq from the exhaust.

Thanks!

What does it look like if you use a 1.9 60', I have pulled that on slicks.

The only issue with the 6800 rpm limit is that I need a JWT ECU and they pull too much timing which will cause s loss of torque, plus I am already overdriving the blower at 6400rpms with a 2.62" pulley.

For poops and laughs could you add 20hp/20tq as if I had a full 3" exhaust and see what it turns out as?

Great numbers Matt, keep up the good work. Perhaps it's time to retire that S-Trim for something that would do the job more effectively.

Maybe a T trim, but 12's on street tires would me my goal.

Its an adiction though so you never no.

CAI any Y pipe, just couldnt get me their...

Tried the 60 shot of nitrous, after a while I needed more...

Tried the 100 shot of nitrous, but I needed it all the time...

9.5psi was good for a while, but I had to "speed ball" it with nitrous to make it feel good again...

13.5 psi is great, but I dont think I can stay with it forever...

It may be time for rehab, a Lincoln Town Car sounds realy nice

DOH!! Not the Town Car.

I agree that the T-trim (maybe even a YS-trim) would be a wise option. Make more power with the same boost as a result of a higher adiabatic efficiency.

Are you against going with an intercooler for some reason? Just curious because of the ;rolleyes: you put after it.

I doubt he's against it. It's just one more thing he would have to spend money on and add to the car. Probably close to the point where the hobby becomes a chore.

BINGO

An AWIC would be great! But I think I will be where I want to be with a 3" exhaust. I still have the juice to fall back on also, a 20-40 shot will be plenty.

I want to have the car tuned by the time the tracks open again. I dont want to be moding and tuning during racing season, I dont have that much free time available. My drag slicks also look very sad just sitting around.

Give three choice...

1) AWIC $1100
2) T Trim Blower $1200 w/exchange
3) 3.5L motor $1500

What do you guys think?

I really want the 3.5L, the 3.5L would have mad torque with boost. Plus it would give me time to do some basic port work on the heads. This would be in 8-12 months.

I agree. The VQ35 would be about the most bang for the buck. But the thing would make so much torque that it would be almost uncontrollable. With the lighter A32 chassis and the amount of power you would be making I would say that 3rd gear traction problems wouldn't be a suprize (on street tires). Plus doing a VQ35 motor swap would be more of an accomplishment than doing a T-trim swap.

But I know if you have the car long enough you'll eventually have them both.

when you free flow your exhaust that should do it for sure. But Congrats those are some nice numbers.
