My stupid shift **** is STUCK! Help me please.....

I have a Momo Race Air Leather shift ****. The bottom piece that screws on the **** will not unscrew. I need to take the **** off because I need to replace my shift boot and I'd like to chop the stock shifter a couple inches. I can't get to the three screws that hold the **** in place without taking that bottom piece off. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to get that piece off? I tried getting some WD40 in there, but no luck.

The Momo ***** are universal and use allen screws don't they?

You could always just buy a STS to solve your problem

Yeah, they do use allen screws, but there is a piece that covers where the allen screws go. I can't get that piece off. I'll take pics later if nobody knows what I'm talking about.

Are you talking about the round smooth cover thingy that screws in under the shiftknob?? Mine actually came loose the other day, and while i was driving, i hand tightened... and now i can't take that freakin thing off, i don't know how i got it that tight. I don't want to damage the thing by using hand pliers, but I'm gonna get one of those rubber cloth thingy my mom uses to open up jar lids w/ to see if i can get a good grip on that.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I'll try that too, but I don't think I'm gonna have any luck.

I bet you have the same problem I did. The allen screws are sticking out a little too much, and the cover is stuck on them. It may have stripped your threads too much to unscrew with your hand. take a thin towel or something similar and use it under a vice grip to turn the cover. Don't tighten the vice grip to much or it will bend the cover. You may have damaged the cover too much to go back on properly, you'll just have to see.

Wowzers! I've got that shift **** & will need to pull it off when I go install my STS.

Has anyone thought of using a hairdryer to warm up the collar? Worse come to worse, use a plastic dishwashing glove to wrap around the collar really well as protective padding & use an adjustable visegrip around that.

Good luck!

Now that i think about it, I think my cover came loose in the first place because the tranny shifter rod thingy was hecka hot. I must have tightened it when the metal was expanded and now that the weather is pretty cold and the last time i tried opening it was in the morning... figures.
