Tire info FACTS needed 245/4517 VS 225/50/17
Here is my dilema. I am currently running 245/45 Toyo Proxes on a 17 X 7 rim. I have been told by the company that mounted them that its perfectly fine and that my demands of mounting a proper sized 225 on the rim are unbased.
I have gone through thread after thread looking for "official" documentation. I have printed out what the "master of all things rubber" has in the sticky. But that seems to be the only thing in "black and white" to prove that a 245 belongs on a MINIMUM 7.5 J rim. Mine is a 7JJ rim.
TO BOOT, they have scuffed up my painted calipers (not much money but a pain in time), scratched up my rims because they are lipless and use the stick on weights. The tool to removed these weights is "not curved" enough and hence the scratches. I have run all over the damned city trying to get a balancing issue cured and had to do it myself after 3 trys by the company (separate locations). I solved by taking the needed time to mount properly WITH hubcentric rings (was told I dont need them). And they have been busted TWICE over tightening my lugs. I could not even HAND remove them. I was then told that this happens from time to time. Even though both times I drove a total of 1.8 miles to my house to verify ft/lb torque.
They only offer 3 types of tires, Goodyear RSA (200 per), Michelin Pilot A/S (249 per) and Michelin MXV(might have missed a character, 249 per). They have granted me a $400 dollar credit stating that "the tire has wear" (approx 13K miles) (been fighting since roughly 9K) its performance tire so there is no mileage warranty blah blah blah. That would mean I would have to pay $600 to have these tires mounted. I believe at MAXIMUM I should only have to pay $200 (difference between the cheapest 225 sized Goodyear)
So any FACTUAL information that can be provided to assist me in this situation would be great.
Thanks!
Colonel
