Problem with starting car, battery suspected

Ive had this problem 3 times starting about 2 weeks ago when It got really cold. Sometimes when I try to start my car nothing happens, none of the interior lights come on, no dash lights. It the engine wont turn over or anything. The odd thing is like this morning I was driving it and had gotten out of the car and about 5 mins later I tried to start it and nothing happened. I think that I just have a bad battery or something. My dad says there might be a short in the electrical system or something. Im not really sure how the battery could fully drain in 5 mins, so if you know whats goin on plz respond.

BTW: If I jump the car then it will start fine.

Sounds like a dead cell in the battery. This will cause it to happen only some of the time.

Make sure you battery connections are clean. Take them off, clean them up and see how it goes from there.

Yea, im sure thats what he was referring to but it sounds like you could use a new battery. Go to Sears and get a Diehard. They will replace it without questiosn whenever it dies.

Clean all battery connections and grounds. A dying battery won't suddenly "work" again if it's already dead. Nor will it just suddenly puke out. You CAN get your electrical system load tested at any garage or shop. ie..sears,firestone,local garage etc....

Make sure it's Diet Mountain Dew. Less calories means a lighter car which equates to a better 1/4 mile time.

LOL - yeah but the artificial sweetener in it causes cancer - you dont want your car to die a premature death

Just telling you I went out in the snow and 20 degree weather with my can of mountain dew. I scraped some of the corrosion off with a plastic brush and brushed some mtn dew on both connections. Put them on and started up the car! Thanks alot guys guess that the connections just werent strong enough, hopefully that will keep starting the car. So if you havent clean your connections and you will get much better conductivity. Thanks alot guyz
