To rice or not to rice, that is the question?

I love Maximas My mother had and 88 and I have a 90 and 01 AE. I was once into the graphics thing. Now there all gone. But why do people go and buy things like LED washer nozzles and spray paint everything under the hood. I hate to see such great cars go to civic status. Oh and STOP representing APC on your fricken windshield. It looks like your sponsored by Pep Boys. I was once sposored by Tsudo/Cuzo and all they wanted to do was convert my car into grape fruit cannon. So I beg all Maxima owners. Fallow the main tunning order.

Handling

looks

Follow basic steps. Not to say you can't buy nice looking little things, but don't get a paint job for 3grand and wonder why people rev at you on the road. All show and no go sucks. 3 grand would have built quite a quick little bolt-on terror. Oh and Orange, yellow, and green custom paint job are out.

Re: To rice or not to rice, that is the question?

And who put you in charge of determining what's right and wrong on a car? Thank you for determining how we should all tune our cars. Without you, we'd all be lost. And thank you for telling me what colors I can't paint my car because they're out, it's a good thing you're so in touch with what's hip and cool these days.

There are a lot more nice Civics than Maximas out there. And if you're so anti rice, why would you even get a sponsorship from Tsudo? They don't make anything other than rice mufflers.

To me, LED washers, and spray paint are ugly, but if somebody wants it, it's their car.

And all show and no go is cool if that's what someone wants. Why does everybody have to race on the streets? Gotta prove you're a man? I don't see anything wrong with a crazy body kit, custom paint, wheels, and no power mods. It's what the owner wants. You can't use 400 hp much on the streets, but you can cruise in style all the time.

I've got a $6K paintjob. And I'm pretty damn sure my car will outperform yours in anything you can think of. But it doesn't really matter because I'm happy with MY car just as I'm sure your happy with YOUR car.

it's people like this that are just complete idiots... idiots.

you are a moron for starting this thread and a bigger moron for even being public with your worthless opinions.

i could give a flying fukk less what most of the people on this forum think of my car, especially someone like you who will do the basics and quit there. you are not a true car enthuasist if you just buy a muffler and slap an intake on, good luck gaining any respect.

seriously, you need to think before you post.

Just lookin to see what kind of response I would get. Thanks for any comments. Voice is Strength. I do respect other people's opinion. It was just a topic in which I wanted to true honest opinions as far as taste. I hope more come forward and explain why they do the things they do. Why system and no SC? Why stock versus show? Basically the same questions you would ask of anyone else's car out on the street. I expected this kind of response and greatly look forward to hearing more.

If people haven't noticed, my signature looks down on rice. The people that replied to this thread so far, in my eyes, are not rice. I think people should spend money on performance, handling, then looks. I am the type of person that gives NO PROPS to people that convert their integra to a prelude in the rear and silvia in the front. I give props to people that run 13.xx NA. I used to think that rice is 100% the car. Now, I realize that rice is also partly about your attitude when you drive.

Just the other day, I was driving my friend home and was driving the speed limit (which is slow in San Fran traffic and for me) and all of a sudden this car pulls up really fast and tails me. He keept slowing down, then flooring it. I immediately knew...RICE. I pulled over to let him pass. Not to my surprise, it was two high schoolers in a ~91 Eclipse GS with universal dual DTM exhaust that burnt his bumber because of improper fitting and a fat decal that read "AMERICAN RACING COMPANY." I felt offended for letting them pass, how stupid of me. When the road turned into two lanes, I punched it, looked over to see the million dollar look on their faces, and was gone. My friend half-jokingly said, I think their are going home to install Altezza lights.

This guy isnt all that bad. That is y ppl SUCK IN THIS WORLD, ye my opinion matters jus as much as the other, which is BS. U have the right and entitled to ur opinion, but does it mean if its ignorant, it matters jus as much as a intelligent opinion?

Xample, I know a buddy who wants to jus work 7bux an hour, and not further his education. One person would respect him and say, well thats his choice/opinion, if hes happy, than fine. But a really intelligent person would try to critize and correct this **** cuz what hes doing by principle is wrong. Common sense, higher education is better than ****ty *** jobs like that. Ppl who actually respect everyone are the ones not correcting and making the negative ppl change.

Rice is jus looks. Its like u only care how u look, but the inside should always be the most essential and important, but ppl dont care, wtf can ya say?

Its like datin a girl who is hot but dumb, rather than one who has personality but avg looking, tsk tsk...

**** this is off topic, neways, maxima rules

On the one hand, I kind of see where this guy is coming from. IMO, to be rice, you have to "act" like rice as well--it's not so much about the look of the car. If you slap on a fart can for an exhaust, plaster 55 "racing" decals on the car, and then start going crazy on the roads thinking you're driving a porsche, that kinda ****es me off. On the other hand, someone may not have enough money to put on top of the line aftermarket parts, so he/she may put on some low end stuff, but that's not to say that they are rice. If they drive like a normal person, then I wouldn't say it's rice. It's all about how you come across driving the car, not so much how it looks.

However, 20th Maxstyle, I see what you wanted to get across, but the way you posted it, I'm not surprised you got flamed a little bit. You just made it sound (in your initial post) like you KNOW what's rice and what isn't. I think everyone has their own definition of it (more like when you see one, you know it's "ricey"), but you can't just say what people can and can't do to a car.

My $.02

BTW, what's wrong with keeping a car stock? bigsadler, you're saying that one is not an "enthusiast" if he just puts on a muffler and exhaust, but I'm planning on keeping my car stock for some time at least (for my own reasons), but I would still consider myself an enthusiast. Perhaps I misinterpreted what you meant, but I'm kind of curious about your comment.

Anyhow, Happy New Year guys!!!

Will have to agree with shadow here. All show PLUS go for some haters

Me and a couple of friend wanted to see how many people would defend there cars. On the DSM forum we stated the RS and GS are always built for show and T and X's are more tunner type. I wanted to hit a nerve and get people's real feeling for a change. I new I was going to get burn on this tread, But if you as anyone on the midwest forum or on thedriven.org, they will tell you that I am the most passive guy to own a maxima. I don't really use the word RICE when it comes to any maxima. In fact. I have held a meet at my house inviting anyone. On plenty of thead I have told people that their car is their own and one should tell anyone how to mod a car. Again I only wanted honest opinions. I accept the roast as a strong comment that was only a defence towards what they thought was directed towards them. I would have done the same. But neither one of their cars would I consider rice. I like them both and would be proud to cruz with such uniquely designed max's. Some people use brushes and some use finger paint. Either way, art is art.

I've learned that you should keep your opinions to yourself on these public forums. People are too sensitive about stuff, so you end up looking like a jerk if you give your honest opinion or criticism. Like if someone goes out and buys $2K worth of wheels that are just horrible looking, then they post here asking for opinions on their new wheels, if you tell them they are ugly, everyone thinks you're a punk and flame you until you just stop trying.

I know a lot of people are going to respond badly to this post, I guess I never learn.

I think in this case, if someone asked for HONEST opinions, they should EXPECT that some people may not like the rims (as in this example). I think the difference is in how you present your opinion. If, for example, you tell the person "these rims are fugly...how could you spend 2Gs on those nasty rims, etc etc", that's not being very considerate. If, on the other hand, you say something like "personally, these aren't my style, but if you like them, then congrats...", you get your opinion across (you don't like the rims), but you're not being a jerk in the process.

Basically, it's all about how you present your opinion, not necessarily what your opinion is. If people post asking for opinions though, they should expect that some people will disagree. That's why there are millions of styles of everything out there, because everyone single person has a different taste, and what one considers hot, another may consider ugly, and vice versa. We just have to be respectful of each other, that's all (esp. as fellow Max owners ).

Same here, Tropicana costs $3.50 at Randall's this week. When it's on sale, it only costs $2!! That's a big difference. Guess I'll have to fall short of USDA suggested daily allowance of vitamin C until juice is on sale again .
