According to Nissan/Infiniti the I30 muffler is worth the extra 5hp over the 2K Max (doubtful). However, since the I30 muffler is slightly larger in capacity and is the same muffler used on the 20th AE Maxima, I am tempted to try it on my 96 SE. While the turn-down tips aren't exactly pleasing to the eye, they do serve a very important purpose. Turn-down tips allow the exhaust to be scavanged from muffler much easier than a tip coming straight out because of the air traveling underneath the car. This is a big reason why I'm thinking about this muffler. I'm getting a little older (god, I'm allow 26) and I don't really care about big fancy tips and such anymore. I will probably prep and paint the muffler a deep silver/chrome using some good high temp engine paint to make it look halfway nice. To get around the bumper cutout for exhaust tip on the stock muffler, I will probably fab a insert out of plastic that I can screw into the bottom of the bumper. I will then use some material to cover up this piece and a little of the bumper. Most likely it will be like the material car companies use to protect the bumper from exhaust gases (ie Volvo, BMW, Benz). I don't think this will look to strange because all of it will be black and my Max is black.

What's everyone's opinion? Will it look like a$$? I will dyno this setup along with a mod to remove the stock intake resonator connected to the HKS intake.

Dave, sounds like a good plan.....

You may want to talk with/e-mail Jeff92se who has one on his Maxima for pointers as well.

This setup should work, though I think the 97-99 Maximas would be 'easier' with the extra couple of inches in the back when they changed bumper placement, etc.

Sounds expensive (dyno time) for a few

hp at best. Especially if you don't have a baseline to compare to.

Well I already have my dyno listed in my sig. This is with the stock muffler. It only costs $35 to make 2 pulls. I want to dyno again with the I30 muffler, stock intake resonator removed, and new gaskets installed throughout my exhaust.

sorry dave, missed the baseline in the sig

and at that price I can't blame you. Good R & D and reasonably priced too.
