Need help with selling a car

When you 'buy' a car listed for $3K, what are your expectations in terms of repair bills after the purchase? You're not expecting a car in showroom condition, right?

The buyer of my '91 240 sedan wants to have his mechanic check the car, and I'm sure he'll find something, even though I doubt anything major, maybe brakes and tune-ups and such. If the guy comes back with a list of things that are wrong, when should I start giving a discount off $3K? I'm told my price is very fair by others, and it is a bit below the book value for the mileage (112K miles), year, and condition (good).

The car in question is *not* a Maxima, but a '91 Volvo 240 sedan. I know, this is a Maxima site, but I find you guys/gals more helpful than Volvo forum people.

Thanks!

Re: Need help with selling a car

If they're only minor things that the vehicle will still be able to operate safely with, take $300 off MAX. If they are things that affect the car's driveability, take off $600 MAX. If they are things that affect the cars saftey (new brakes all around), take $1000 off MAX. Those aren't the price I'd take off for one thing gone wrong, more like 4-5 small things. Just my $.02.
