Just signed the papers tonight on a nice 1997 Maxima SE auto with 42,572 miles. Traded in a 94 Taurus SHO stick with 110k miles.

Loved the SHO and think i'll love the Maxima more. The max has a sunroof and CD (no bose), no leater, power all around, keyless, and nice alloy wheels with spoiler. Dark green with tan interior.

Just a few questions, it's my first maxima, first nissan, and first foreign car! <g>

1. When is the next scheduled maintenance? Cost? What does it consist of?

2. What are some "weak" areas of the car that I should look out for mechanically? What's prone to failure?

3. If you has a few hundred bux, what would you do first for mod's to get more HP ?

That's about it. Nice to meet everyone and you'll see me around!

Congratulations.....I am sure you will love your new Max.

As for your qustions:

1) I would check the user manual to be sure, but I would say next service is at 45k miles. Oil + filter for sure, but there may be other stuff you may want to just check out.

2) Not sure....anyone else?

3) For a few hundred, you can get an intake...a little more and you can add a Y-pipe to that.

Happy posting

Good Choice in your purchase

Try the Place Racing Cold Air Intake!!! You can get one from http://www.Cattman.com (Brian Catts) for, I believe still, a discounted price. They normally run around 215.

That would be a great start. Then go to opening up your exhaust.

Also check out the group buys, for anything else you may need.

Common problems with the Max seem to be:
1.)The starter seems to take about 1 second to long to retract/shut off after the car is started cold. Someone made a comment on taking it apart because the grease in there gets dirty or something. You will hear this complaint from ALOT of people.
2.)O2 sensors need to be replaced way too often.
3.)The auto's 1-2 shift is a little harsh, but again common and I'm hoping harmless.
4.) A few sqeaks and rattles that randomly pop up and disappear(like a rattle from the rear shelf that I found out is from the speaker cone ripping .

I'm in no way bad mouthing Maxs. Excellent and dependable cars with amazing engines. Just a heads up on potential problems.

Congradulations!!

Your lucky that you got the non-bose system because it is much easier and cheaper to modify. I would recommend an intake, and just for looks buy a set of clear corners for only $25-$30 on ebay.
