I been seen lots of I broke my tranny this month more then ever. To start with myself I was very surprised that I cracked my outer casing pretty good. People that their tranny got broken this month are

Bone Stock still has orange corners.. 60k on the ODO.. absolutetly no mods .. not even a K&N 99 SE 5spd

 

Yeap... Running SC 9-10psi V2 3.33" Auto 297fwhp... Only had like 38K on it too. It kinda blew at a perfect time. I was planning on getting a 5spd conversion the following week.. My whip is at the shop now. Can't wait till I get it back

 

Add me to the list. It's not broken fully yet, but its holding on for dear life. The only thing keeping it together is Lucas fluid that I have to add every week. I'm an Auto N/A.

 

goin from auto to 5 speed you dont have to change the piping or anythign for the s/c right? everything stays the same?

I may be on that list soon, my tranny has started slipping again from first to 2nd, ive already had the TSB done on it... But the funny thing was when i first pulled out my drive way the rpms jumped from 2.5k to 4k in about a second then slamed into second.

Nope.. everything is fine. Remember the stillen kit was built around a 5spd... If anything, now I can fit the bigger cone filter on instead of the apexi since there is more room in the front engine bay.

 

know when you mite be picking it up from jeff's shop? i still wanna check out the strobes

i blew my tranny last month.. I was NA still... paid 50 bucks to replace it under warrenty


New tranny now, let's see if I can blow it soon 11 lbs boost should do the trick.

That's how I found the .org. Before I had anything done to my car I completely lost second gear (96 Auto bone stock, 85k). The thing wound out to 4 grand in 1st before it slammed into third. It's was super.

Edit: January of LAST year.

 

Add DmbMaxima to the list. I believe he told me that a braket broke and fell into the case. Metal bits have found a home throughout all of the gears.

 

My tranny is gringing throughout all the gears now. It feels like it slips some teeth when engaging. The tranny is pretty toast, but its still driveable. Synchros are also failing, cant get into 1st or 2nd sometimes. Problems started when my TPS went bad (long story). 93 SE 5spd stock with 130k.

 

I was not racing anyone, I took off around 4K and it wheel hopped a bit real hard and thats how it crack damaging final drive gear and some other gear there I dont know which it is. I did crack it open last night and it had lots of metal shavings from broken teeth. Some of the gears had cracks on the sides from the metal shavings.


DJPlayboy your problem sounds more of a slipping clutch. What you described is what PRPmax described to me and he just changed his clutch out. Now is a different issue.

Mine is severely beaten down and crying - I will terminate its existence most likely on Saturday at the dyno. 8lbs of boost, automagic.

 

i been workin at auto zone and we sold more transmissions in the last two weeks than in the last 6 months. plus two of my roomates both had tranny trouble this week, just not in a max. one lost first gear yesterday in a malibu, and the other has a cj5 with a 4 speed and lost first and third.

 

Apparently a buncha cars in atlanta had this happen too. I received PMs about how to fix them.

 

IMNSHO- You all beat your cars up. You are too juiced up on the Fast and the Furious Culture, and have no appreciation for the limits of machinery. If you continuously use stuff to do what it ain't meant to do, it will break. Ever wonder why Nissan is so difficult to get warrentee service from?

If you are 27, I was driving Maxima 5 speeds before you are driving. Owned two of them for 11 years and 125 K miles and never broke a clutch or tranny. Keep doing 4k lauches and then cry when you break something.

Maybe amax shouldn't have said things the way he did, but you can't scoff at the point he makes.

Boosted or N/A, I'd like to know how the people with the busted trannies drove their cars. And I've heard people swear they don't beat on their car, like my roommate with his 240 (he's a "perfect driver" in his mind) that takes off from the house EVERY TIME at WOT high through first gear with a cold engine, etc. Every. Time.

This is just for normal driving it appears. 3200, 4000? I didn't even rev my old Acura up to that to launch in a race.

Maybe all these broken trannies are signs that people need to chill out on their driving habits a little bit. I'm not saying in all cases, just saying this doesn't sound like a basis to run to Nissan claiming their transmissions aren't worth two cents.

Think of ALL the people that have maximas...the enthusiast angle is a MINUTE percent compared to the grocery moms. If there was a problem, don't you think the maxima would be more frowned upon in the service world for having crappy trannies? And if you think the grocery moms or the family guy that may want to floor it once a month don't apply, well...that is majorly who they're designing these cars for.

 

You know after thoroughly thinking about it I didnt take off at 4K I took off at 2K but I punched it. It was clearly my fault and I am not crying about it nor is everyone else. Is no big deal I do my own work I took it off and have another tranny in my basement just awaiting a quaife. Now I know what it takes to break one.

This post was a joke something to have fun of if you want to put it like that. Look at the 2nd post add my cousing to the list is a joke. If someone took it serously thats on them. I know alot of these guys have commons sense and know what it takes to break a tranny. I dont live my life 1/4 mile at a time either. Apparently I didnt know that the wheel hop cracked the tranny. But do not compare myself or other to the fast and the furious thats just plain BS fantasy that I dont live in.

I think this post will provide some good info into the deep maxima.org databases. I just don't want people to get the idea that Nissans/Maximas have horrible trannies after reading posts like this.

like someone said up there we dont know how hard we drive our cars. I will confess I get boost happy once in a blue moon. But its rare I drive from and to work and there is lots of traffic on my way to and from work. The real reason my tranny broke was from the bunch of maxima people that come thru here wanting a ride in a boosted maxima.

Yup, I was a d**k, just felt like causin some trouble. And yes I am old and dumb, but I know maximas and their potential pretty well. Some grannies break their Maxima tranies, but they are not really designed to handle much xtra HP or drag launches.

okay okay.. all these people listed who have their busted trannies are a very very small percentage of the total number of maxes that are modded with or with out boost.


if we could take all the 4th gen maxes ever made and have them post weather or not they have had tranny problems i think everyones view would change on maxima trannies.

the only people that are posting on this thread are the people with busted trannies. so if you are reading this and thinking max trannies are no good your not looking at the whole picture.

thats the problem the with the org. people read somebodies post/exp. and take it like its written in blood. no two maxes are a alike. just cause X amount of trannies broke doesnt mean every tranny in a max is going to go out.
