Looking at a Max, but its the wrong color; How much to paint it black?

I have found a '96 SE 5spd Maxima, loaded, with 68,000 miles for 8 grand; but it's beige. I've been looking for a while now for a Black 4th gen SE 5spd Max, and they are very few and far in between. My grandma offered to pay for it to get it painted if the car was the right price.

About how much would it cost to wetsand the clearcoat off and repaint the whole car black? I've been told it would cost about $1000 and take a couple weeks for a body shop to do.

Thanks in advanced.

Just keep it beige. I don't think that color is that bad. Spend your money in performance. A paint job is the last thing you should worry about.

Wow! I'm not talking a full primer and what not, just wetsand off the clear coat, and paint over the beige. I would think it wouldn't be anywhere NEAR 3500!!

If you're not going to do it right, don't bother. It's going to look like crap.

I'll give my bodyshop a call monday morning or whenever they are open next to get an estimate, but I guess I will just keep searching for that Maxima.

if you're gonna paint it, paint a different color that isn't offered stock! black looks really nice and sporty and all, but there are lots of black maxima's out there. if you're gonna spend money repainting, might as well get a unique color that will turn heads. the blue the 5th gens have would look awesome on a 4th gen. but then again, it's your car, do what you want.

the best paint job is the original factory. Bumpers will peel if repainted...I do not advise it

RETARD!!!
Go buy the damn color you want...
Crap if it had the wrong tranny even it would be cheaper to swap then to paint...

Paint is $300 in Material alone
1 day in prep work
2hrs to paint
1 day reinstall

and it NEVER looks right... You CAN"T change the color of your car without spending $3000 or it looks like crap..

u dont have to spend 3k to have an excellent job. Different shop tell u different prices. My car now is repainted black again and is only 1300. And they do an excellent job. You just have to look around and get a prices of each one. And also ask they how many coates they put on. and what kind. You just have to search around.

What color is the interior? The best thing about most black maxima's is that a lot of them have a black INTERIOR.

Repaint is NOT the same as changing the color....
U need to pull ALL the moldings, paint the jams, the trunk and figure out what to do with the engine bay..... $3000 is what it cost to do it right....

I am not pandering to YOU or anyone else based on the idea of making future cash.. I am merely providing my personal opinion on a subject I know quite abit about. You ask a question you get an answer... You ask a stupid question you get called stupid before I answer the question... $8,000 + a paint job is NOT a good deal on any 4th gen maxima IMHO.

What if a car was Dark Evergreen or that black emerald color...would it be possible to change that to black and still look good. It's not that drastic of a color change

It would be easier because you might could go without painting the engine bay. Things like 1 green to another or one blue to another u can do easy.. But the actual from one color to a different color totally is expense if you ever want it to look right.. Remember looking right means -sellable- buyers DON'T want a car that is black with a tan engine bay.. Atleast I would be like are you kidding me.. WTF happened here?

if u really dont like the color that much, dont get it. although that is a really good deal on a max, theres nothing worse than not being happy with your car. i would advise against a re-paint, its a big hassle, and a lot of money, and when a rock hits it and the paint starts to chip or get scratched you will cry like a baby! and beige doesnt look that bad, with a body kit and some read/clears, and clear corners. i have a black maxima, with black leather and let me tell you everything shows on the paint, the smalles scratch to the smallest ding, although when its clean nothing looks better and with the money it would cost to paint it, you could do a supercharger or turbo install.

just my .02

what the hell is with the sarcasm? I was just summing up what the smart thing to do is. If you knew that was the smart thing to do, you wouldn't have asked the repainting question.
