FINALLY pics of custom midpipe, ported air box, and bypassed resinator

Sorry to take so long but it took me a while to find a digital camera. Here are the pics of just about everything I could think of when using the stock intake components.

First here is the midpipe

Here is another closer shot, it is painted metallic black

Here is the picture of the bypassed resinator, it is a 3inch coupler attached to a 3inch pipe. This is where the little pipe was located that ran from the snorkel to the battery, just disconnect the little pipe and you can attach somthing more constructive.

Here is the four inch mouth connected to the above, please excuse the bugs, this particular shot was taken after a trip from OKC to Dallas

Finally here is the ported air box

And another closer shot, this opening is far enough away from the engine that I hope it will be free of hot air, and for the most part get air coming from around the hood.

These were requested by some members. Everything fits perfectly and is free of leaks. I will be adding a JWT velocity stack and filter to the mix soon, and may even just keep the air box and work with the velocity stack. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hmm, isnt the intake filter above the hole you made in the Air Box?

He made the hole in the right place. The air is drawn up through the bottom, passed through the filter and then on to the TB etc.

This setup looks nice! How does it sound?

It looks like it's 2-3" off the ground. What happens if you hit a speedbump, pothole, lumpy road, piece of debris, etc?

It could just be the picture but it looks dangerously low.

The sound is great, very deep. No quite as loud as the open filter, but still very very noticable at WOT or above 4,000rpm, the stock box gives the sound like a speaker box does for a speaker, a little bit more muffled, but nice and deep (thats the best way I could describe it.) More information on this can be found here.

IT performs good too. Even with larger wheels, (automagic ) I spin through most of first and will chirp second (I have heard that some with intakes don't do this in automatics), that is power braking from a stop and let it loose at about 2000 rpm (that is with a Y-pipe.) I will play around with the velcity stack and fabricate a new midpipe for it and do some runs and let you know.

The whole intake cost me about 35.00 so far, and that includes buying another lower half from cbr2 for a very fair price, and I would say hands down he is the best person I have ever worked with.

The run down
(bypassed first resinator)
3inch pipe (about 6.00)
3inch bend (so the mouth faces forward under the car) (3.00)
4inch mouth (2.00)
3inch rubber coupler (3.00)

(midpipe) measure to your application
http://www.drwebdesign.com/mymaxima/upperintake.html
(I still had some piping left over from the bypass resinator)
3inch metal coupler (4.00)
1/2 inch MIP adapter (attachments for vaccum hoses) 1.00 each
Brass adapter (2.00)

metallic paint (3.00)

(air box)
bought another lower half from cbr2 (thats confidential)
drilled my old one for free

This was all built at Loews, they know me by name now

This set up has been on my car for almost a year with no problems, the throttle body is still clean (cleaned it before installing everything.)

Let me know if you have anymore questions

The pic was taken on a hill at my house back in dallas, which does make it look pretty low. I havn't hit anything with it yet, but I am looking for that lucky squirrel to decapitate. This was the first thing I did and what really displayed the gains of my y-pipe at high RPM's.

I took the resonator below the battery today, the noise is noticably louder below 4000rpm, is there anyway to get a little more noise highend without making it sound like an open filter intake? (I had a stillen intake ... too loud)

maybe I should cut a really small hole on the lower airbox?

how did u cut the airbox? did you use dremel?

I used a 2inch drill bit. Looks like a can cut in half with a drill bit in the middle. That sounds like a good idea for the air box, I would get another lower half before you do it just in case you don't like it, or keep the piece that you cut so you could repair it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

It was the size (circumference) of a 2inch pipe. Like I said in a previous post think of half a coke can with a drill bit in the middle. The drill bit cuts the first guide hole until the larger bit (about the size of half a coke can) does it's job.

Here they are, scroll to mid page

It's the yellow ones.
