2003 Max Idle Hesitation
2003 Maxima Engine Hesitation
Hi all..
Well.. I've had my 2003 GLE Max for about a month now, and there is something that's bothering the cr@p out of me. When the car is at a stand still idling (at around 600-700 RPM's), I can feel the engine vibrating. It's very faint and I wouldn't think anything of it, but then, when I begin to slightly let up on the brake, the car hesitates with the engine vibration. I've had this happen to me in other cars and it usaually meant it was time for a tune up, but i barely have 2000 miles on this car, hardly time for a tune up.
Is this normal, and, if not does anyone have any ideas what it could be. I'm probably going to bring it in to the service station to have them check it out, but any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

It has been discussed before here
The general consensus is that the VQ idles at pretty low rpms (~650), causing engine vibration to be more than people would like. With the current extremely cold weather in my area, my Max engine idles a bit higher (~700) and there is no vibration.

Re: 2003 Maxima Engine Hesitation
I too have noticed that my engine idles very rough, and occassionally shudders almost like its going to turn off. though mine has 14K miles on it, I began noticing this practically after the first 1K, sucks since I know my previous Maxima (92) ran so smooth for a lot longer time than that! I hope it isn't anything too bad confused:

Luckily that's never been a problem with the 4th gen, at least with me and on my 5-spd. Wonder if that problem is only with autos and what happens when you drop it in N. It'd be nice to simply say bump up the idle speed but that will put more wear on your tranny too. Hate to say this too, but when the car is new we tend to notice everything about it and it could drive us crazy. I'd say once you get into the 20's with a Maxima you'll get used to minor things. Of course things that cost $$$ will be annoying no matter how many miles!
