Tires, Tires, and more Tires
Hi Everybody,
I have a 2000 SE with 60k and ready to replace my tires (stock Potenzas of course). I would love to get the Mich Pilot AS, but too expensive. What would be a good tire with a price of $125 per tire? Anyone have recommendations for the Cooper Lifeline or Pep Boys Futura Plus Touring SE?
Thanks,
Fred

You got 60k out of the stock potenzas I would try out that new Kuhmo tire kh11 from tirerack.com. They come in the stock size 225-50-17 if you are set on keeping stock size. tires.com has a few faulken tires in 225-50 that are in your price range also. If you are willing to go to a 235-45 you have a $hit load more choices. Matt

The 45-series tire has a slightly shorter sidewall, making the tire 3.5% shorter overall.
What would end up happening is your speedometer would read 3.5% faster than your actual speed, ie would read 100 when you were really only doing 96.5 mph. (Not that you'd ever drive that fast, of course heh heh.) The car will accelerate slightly better due to the effective shorter gearing.
Handling would be slightly improved due to the shorter sidewall, but ride stiffness could also go up (I say could because the type of tire itself is more important for ride quality).
If you went with the H-rated Dunlop D60 A2's that have a softer sidewall than, say a Z-rated tire, then your ride quality should remain similar to now I would guess.
