finally.... CLEAN engine bay!!!

haha last summer i posted some questions about how to safely clean the engine bay... and i was flamed right to left for having such a filthy engine. Well i took Ben's advice.... degreased it... sorta clean but not shiny until yesterday. When i waxed my car, i decided to armor-all the inside so check out my before / after pics lol...

still need some help tho, there are hoses i can't get my hands to... shoudl i just degrease it? I did degrease the engine bay but was too scared to spray water in there to wash it down. Should I attempt this?

yeah, ghetto ground wire upgrade.... so ghetto I didn't feel like going out and buying black insulated wires for it haha so i just used the red ones that were lying around in my garage. Later i'll get some wireloom for 2 bucks (14ft) and cover that up so it's black.

Black Magic Tire Foam works pretty good for me. Just spray it all over and wipe down any excess. Cleans up the hoses and wires nice. But as far as the fire wall, that will take some degreasing or heavy buffing.

what kind of degreaser did you use?

last time i cleaned my engine i covered the battery and every wire harness i could see with pieces of plastic. I used some of my dads carb cleaner, sprayed it on the main visible surfaces - valve cover etc and let it sit for a few mins then washed it down with a power washer...took all the plastic pieces off and it started right up no problems

I just use simple green every other time I wash the car. Cover the air filter with a plastic bag and rubber band. Soak everything with the degreaser, let it sit for about 5 minutes and hose it off with a gentle spray.

so do you do you cover the harnesses or electrical connections or just spray, wait 5 mins and wash off.

Jesus my engine I don t clean but it does not look no where near yours in the before pic, looks like someone dumped a bag of dust into it. But great job cleaning it looks very nice and clean.

From hear on out, there is no reason to keep using Armor All. All you need to do is wipe down the engine bay with a moist rag. Take a look at my homepage and you'll a pic of my motor. My Maxima is a 96 and all I do is dust and wipe out the engine bay 10 minutes every month. You guys are absolutely crazy to be using Simple Green and or washing your engine bays.

Yep, I never degreased or use any cleaners to clean under the hood before. Wet cloth does the trick just fine.

i scrub stubborn dirt with wd40.. must be safe enough; haven't killed my motor yet. the degreaser stuff i had to use once when i had the ps fluid leak and a big area was covered in layers of semi dry oil. but for the other parts i get some nasry white residue after the degreaser. so i just hand polish it with aluminum polish and wd40 and lots rags.

Do any of you who use Simplegreen find that the aluminum gets dull? I thought about using it but then read posts about it messing up the aluminum. I have plenty of that stuff & might use it this weekend.
