This car is gonna be able to KILL lots of others...LOTS. Lets look as the current SE. With a 5sp it will run 60 in a tad under 8 seconds and around 16 flat in the quater mile. That pretty good. The same as some tests for a 2k Max auto.

Now the good stuff. The sentra will come in 2 flavors. SE-R and SE-R V spec hmm...nissan borrowing some gt-r names

The SE-R will have....dum dum..the new qr25de...all alumin....bascially a 4cyl VQ....170hp/175ft-lbs of torque!!! DAMN...25hp and 40ft-lbs MORE than the current car...WOW WOW WOW. Now....add the spec v and you get 180hp and 180ft-lbs of torque!!!!!!!

se-r comes with either 5sp man or 4sp slush....spec v comes with ONLY a 6 speed man.

Sure.....the gt-s and type r's have 180-190hp.....but they aint got 180ft-lbs of torque....more like 135

hang on....its gonna rock. I hope they lease them.

yep... and with the aggressive look I can seriously see the sentra ser becoming a hit with the import pocket rocket crowd... especially with honda not producing any si's right now.

WOW!

sounds cool, but i never liked the new sentra's taillights, everythign else is cool. Man with a 6 speed tranny that thing could probably take out the new Celica! and it also has a Rockford Fosgate system!

Wow...180lb-ft of torque!

You guys realize the S2000 only has like, 153 right? The V-Spec will even have more torque than the Prelude, the Honda 'King of 4-cyl torque,' which has around 160.
And the Sentra SE already had pretty similar performance numbers to the Civic Si. This V-Spec might even be able to take on the new turbo Impreza, who knows?

And imagine if they offer a 250SX(or whatever they'd call a coupe version)! Maybe even a little more performance out of that huge 4-banger.

Wonder what the price tag is and if the rear will do away with the beam system? Looks like a fun car!

Wonder if the Maxima will get more power for 2002? Talked to Nissan, nobody is talking. Maybe I should hold off on the 02 I30T?

Yeah, I'm wondering about that too. Without a doubt, the Altima will need some more power, since it only makes 155hp/160 lb-ft of torque. With it's lighter weight, the Sentra SE-R V-Spec would take it out in a heartbeat.

With that much power and torque, you would think the Sentra would be faster than that. What's up? Are they suddenly getting alot heavier? 0-60 is a auto tranny test?? Doesn't sound right. 170hp and 2700lbs or so should be faster.

The Autoweek I received on Saturday said the new Acura would have 200 HP. The weight of the V Spec should be close to the current SE.

Hmm. Good to know the rumors I had been hearing from the SoCal-SERCA list were accurate.

Buy a used Maxima, a new stripped GXE, or a Sentra SE-R Spec V... HMMMMMMM...

Hey Brian,

Get yourself the Sentra SE-R Spec V and have a blast with it instead of a used Maxima... The only advantage the Maxima has is the larger interior room.

yeah, that car should be something else..

Word is, its going to be going for under 18k$! Why pay nearly 24k$ (not sure) for a Integra Type R, when you can have a nice 6 speed V spec Sentra for thousands less, which you can invest into some serious asskicking HP, (boost?)

I think it looks pretty damn good too, at least in my opinion it does. The tailights are a bit ugly but its okay

This car sounds perfect for serious mods.

Nabil: no kidding. With the Maxima purchase delayed again, a Sentra SE-R Spec V is very, very tempting.

I know the rumor that the '02 Maxima will get a 260hp. engine. However, also the rumor is that the new Maxima will be bigger, heavier, and more expensive. With that in mind, this new Sentra SE-R and especially the V-Spec one, look like a better deal. And how about the Altima? Who knows what will the new Altima will be like. I really like the interior of this new Sentra. If I get one, I would definitely get the V-Spec one. Only one thing I don't really like is the rear end, looks a bit like a Pontiac Sunfire? Maybe it's just me.

True....but it won't have 180ft-lbs of torque. Whats better....200hp@~7500/135ft-lbs OR 180hp@~6400/180ft-lbs ASSuming both maximize gearing potential?

I know fully of the art of gearing how a low torque Type-r can run low 6's to 60. I'm just wondering if EVERYONE wants to redline 8000 redline each gear and sound like a sport bike OR do people like a low 15's 5sp max that makes a light roar at WOT.

Surely it will be faster than low 7's in its "V spec" tune. The current car WILL run under 8 seconds to 60. On paper(no tests yet) the addition 25hp(35hp V) and 39ft-lbs(44 V) should be quite capable of dropping the time by more than a second to under 7.

Weight? Well...the curent 5sp SE is listined as 2674 in the brochure. Figure the se-r will have a body kit and heavier wheels, but thats about all that would add weight. TRUE..the 2.5L is a larger displacement motor BUT its repalcing an iron block 2.0 with an all aluminum 2.5. Remember...the vq30 replaced the vg30 and was some hundered? pounds lighter...even tho the car got heavier. This QR25DE is said to be a based on the VQ technology and should be a 4cyl vq.

What do I think.

Figure a se-r auto will run 8 seconds or just about even with a current Sentra se 5sp.

The 5sp se-r will be the one thats in the low 7's...more power than the original se-r but a good deal heavier(4 doors vs. 2)

A 6 speed 180hp se-r with the torsen diff. should leap off the line and run under 7 to 60. The 6/5sp gear box shouldn't have much to do with the 60 times cuz 1st and 2nd should be both basically the same. It wouldn't make sense to have you shift into 3rd BEFORE 60 on the 6 speed cuz that would kill 0-60 time.
