I have a spare valve cover.

Now I need to get it polished. I was thinking of doing it myself, since I dont have alot of money right now, since I bought too much stuff. I just polished a FMIC I have and it was easy, cause it was basically dull smooth alluminum. But the VE valve cover is coated with this yellow coating and has alluminum under.

Since I am new to polishing, can any of you experts tell me what kind of sandpaper I need to use to get it right? I have seen some DIY jobs and the metal looks scratched and swirly. I want to take my time, since it is a spare and do the mirror finish, really smooth and polished down.

Thanks in advance for helping, I am ready to go buy the stuff I need tommorrow. Here is a pic of what the valve cover looks like.

Thanks for letting me use your pic Craig, only one I could find.

My biggest tip is dont use sandpaper that may be too harsh, otherwise it will leave pretty deep scrathes and the metal is pretty soft. ALso if you have an extra one, I reccomend just sending it out:
