clicking sound when i turn the steering

I get a clicking or klucking sound when i turn the steering wheel, sometimes it totally vanishes and sometimes it is loud. It is more when the car is stationery. I have been ignoring it, just wanted to know whether it was safe to ignore it, cos when i took it to the mechanic it vanished and he could not diagnose what was happening. I have 101,000 on my car and its a 95 maxima gle

thanks

had the exact same thing happen to me, i got the axle replaces and it went away for a day, but a different noise showed up and then after it showing up and going away for three months it stopped going away. I took it to a shop and i had torn the wheel bearings apart, he said that everything just fell out when he took it out. I also had to replace the hub cause that was broken as well.

I was told that the max only has wheel hubs and no bearings?

I would disagree. CV joints are generally heard when the vehicle is in motion, and the sound is accentuated when turning while driving. He mentioned this sound is when the vehicle is stationary.

Wheel bearings...

CV joint is easy to check. Look on the inner wheel for grease. That will be from the CV joint. If there isn't any there, then peel back the dust boot and check that it has enough grease. Usually if its not throwing grease on the wheel then its ok.
