what do you all think of it, do you like the way the auto industry is going with the styling or like me do you think that the styling is getting out of hand? I would like to also add that i think the muscle car era of the auto industry was nice but dont get me wrong i like the current designs as well .....

And with the exception of all but a few i hate the new designs ... IE porsche BMW and Benz have a respectable re-styling.

I don't think as a whole the industry is getting out of hand. You have makers that are more darring and some that are not. If you don't like the looks of a PT Cruiser, you can go to another manufacturer. I think the fact remains, the market is looking for change... so that's what's need. I suspose yuo are one that does not like darring changes, say Pontiac Aztec... the reason I made that conclusion is that you prefer MB and Prosche style. To me they are more eveloutionary not revolutionary. I enjoy both. I love the PT Cruiser, I love the Prowler, etc. But at the same token, I enjoy some conservatively styled cars... a Porsche for example. I think it is healthy for the manufacturers to make changes... makes the head turn... better products will result from this.

There is a difference between daring and stupid......As usual, Pontiac took the stupid approach.

Have you seen one of these things? They have to be one of the ugliest automobiles in history.....and that's saying something....

Me personally, it's not so much styling getting out of hand as it is trying to find a car that actually looks attractive. Having all the distinctive styling in the world doesn't mean s**t to me if the car doesn't look good. European cars tend to be the most easy on the eyes, while some American cars are fugly...the upcoming Cadillac's are a joke. Instead of putting the money into "distinctive styling" put in a well engineered suspension and better plastic...areas that American car companies could benefit most from.

I wouldn't use the word stupid. as ugly as it is to you and me, I still see people buying it and driving it around. And I am sure if you asked them, they will say they go it cause it's different. I don't agree with it.. but I won't lose any sleep over it.

As usual though, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people think european cars to too boxy, yet other's think they look great. It's all relative.

There are all kinds of people in the world with different types of tastes. If a signel company tries to build a cars for all of them, they will be in debt, case in point, Nissan. No product streamlining... they have a billion plateforms, how can yuo expect to keep up and make money?

I am certainly glad that Pontiac is making the ugly cars for those that like them. Just pray that your fav car maker does not make an Aztec.

How about misguided, misdirected, or completely-screwed-up-and-missed-the-market-that-wanted-a-functional-AND-good-looking-crossover-SUV?

I thought this was funny:

well what about the new Z or the integra replacement ..
too much head turning and not enough of a conscious styling.
And the caddy evoque is borderline ... i like the rounded off shapes as opposed to the sharp lines and straight edges and corners

Fiancee traded in her Protege for a Tribute, so I checked out http://www.mazdausa.com and guess what? Take a look at the RX-8, the SP3, and the "5-Door Sport" (some yellow wagon). I never really liked Mazda, but their products are becoming more convincing.

Turbolaw99, hate to bust on your fiancee, but she should of waited for at least another year to get the Tribute. Here's the reason why...5 RECALLS SINCE SEPT 2000.
