E-bay Question

Hey Guys, I know this is OT, but maybe some of you can help me out? Has anyone seen this ad on E-bay yet?

Green 99 5-speed

I don't know much about E-bay, and to be honest, for the longest time, I've been kinda skeptical about it. But what I would like to know (briefly) is how the whole bidding ordeal works. Do the sellers set a price, or do they leave Best Offers and see what people put down as a bid.....even if it is a ridiculous bid of say, $1,000?

I have to say that green 99 5-Speed looks pretty clean and sharp!

Any advice would be greatly appreciative!

Thanks!

Ebay sellers start the price at what they want. Most people when they sell big items(car, truck, etc) set a reserve, which means the price has to meet what they say. It is not displayed what the reserve price is. It looks like this guy didnt set a reserve so what ever the bid says is what the car is going for. There is still 6 days so expect the price to climb dramatically.

the seller sometimes sets a reserve (lowest acceptable price) so that he doesn't have to sell his product if the bidding didn't go too well.

i don't even use ebay and i know this...lol

are you thinking about bidding or just curious?

Check out his feedback and make sure nobody has had a problem. His description says "most auctions end with a phone call." That means most times someone calls and makes an offer and he ends the auction early (against ebay rules, but who cares). If you're thinking about bidding you might just want to figure out your best offer and call him. The auction probably won't make it until the end.

edit:
Just checked his feedback... there is something a little strange... his description says "most of my auctions end with a phone call" but he's only sold 4 things and only 2 of those are cars. I'd ask a lot of questions and do a lot of checking (start with google) if you plan to make an offer.

Also, you should be able to call Texas and get his used car dealer license info to make sure he's legit.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

2K2Wannabe: I was curious, but at the sametime, if that car was realistically going to be bidded and sold at somewhere below $5K, I'd consider it. Of course, we both know that's not gonna happen.

Yeah, his feedback does seem kinda odd, now that you mentioned it. I guess maybe he's talking about "other" auctions other than E-bay? Plus maybe he's keeping all his options of selling the car open, so contacting him by phone before the auction closes might be easier for him to work a deal? Who knows?

In any case, it was late last night when I posted this thread and altho I'd like to get a 4th Gen stock as nice as that one, Texas is a bit far for me now to be buying cars.

I live in New Hampshire and went to Sweden to buy a volvo... nothing is ever "too far."

Ummmm......that car has VERY low miles for a 99. That's about 12K/year. The low mileage is that car's biggest selling point.
