17X7.5" Wheels with 225/35/17?

I just bought a set of wheels and tires, which were a great deal. They are 17" X 7.5", but the tires are 225/35/17. These came off another Maxima, so I see no reason they won't work, but I was wondering if this was a prefered size or something. I would assume 235/45/17 would be better, would it not?

But it there isn't any real problem with the 225's I'll just wear them out before getting new ones.

Unless I can sell them...

I believe 225/50/17 is what you want with the 225 series. Your 225/45/17 will cause your speedo to be off by just a tad, and may look a little odd without the proper lowering springs. Not a big deal, but would definately go with the 235/45/17 or 225/50/17 for your next tire.

The only problem I see with the 225/45s is that they may be slightly shorter (some models are, some aren't) which causes 3 things:

1) Speedometer error - slight
2) Rougher ride
3) Higher chances of bending a rim due to the short sidewalls

225/45/17 is okay for a 7.5" wide rim.. although 235 would be better for best speedometer match..

the middle # effects the speedometer most.
see this: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/size.htm
and this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

and 45 profile for a 17" wheel is exactly what it should be on 97-99 SEs, equipped with 16's with 215/55/16 tires from factory. With this setup you have now, the speedometer will be off by just a fraction. Reading 1.3% too fast, no big deal. When the speedo reads 60, you're really going 59.2%..

Ideal would be 235/45/17 - it'll read 0.1% too slow, which is really no difference.
