wheel locks....?

can someone give me the run down on them? i'm buying new wheels soon and want to deter someone from being able to steal them. any recomendations? are these a good deal and what i should be looking for or? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33749

i'm getting tantrums so i'm not sure if they're all general or what...haven't dealt with them before so any help is much appreciated.

wheel locks deter amateur car theifs but not professionals. even then, its all about how fast the theive is. the locks themself physically do nothing, you can buy kits for $10 that will allow you to take off any lock lug nut.

the main thing they are good at is they take more time and effort to take off and draw more attention to a theif. to someone with out the removal kits, they are virtually impossiable to remove.

all in all, they are a good investment, but if someone wants your wheels, they will have them, which really sucks

Wheel locks

I had those locks you attached the link to on my stock 17", but I don't think they will work on the Tantrums. You can't get the key in the Tantrum lug hole, its too big. I got the Gorilla lugs from Discount Tire when I bought my Tantrums from them. They come with a special "key" and fit the lug holes without rubbing or scraping.

Some wheels require a different style of lug nuts, I've heard the called "tuner" lug nuts. Make sure you know which your wheels use before you buy.

thanx guys, i'll have to check out those gorilla ones. they seem better to have than not, but i agree with you mrgone, if they want it that badly and they know what to do, they'll get almost anything. but hopefully that won't happen.(knock on wood)

I went to kragen and found these wheel locks that has a pattern shaped like a floppy piece of string. They are made by McGard, and supposedly they have an infinite number of key patterns generated by computer, and look extremely hard to find a tool that will remove them, since the pattern is so shallow. Take a look at some of the patterns yourself.

http://http://www.mcgard.com/automot...page=4&group=1

I got them for $25 a set, so I bought 2, being **** about my TE-37s. So now I have 2 different wheel lock patterns per wheel. That should make it extremely hard to steal.

Konigs usually use tuner type lugs/locks...although they suck because eventually they will rust out and get stuck on the stud....

but why would you lock up Konigs?? who steals those???

How would I be able to find out which type of locks I would need? I have OZ rims, would I be able to find out if I asked OZ or should I ask the companies selling the locks?

Listen up, Jepth20!

I recommend that you do as he says and order McGard wheel locks from summit. I ordered a set of locks AND Spline Drive lugs. If you want the entire set, enter this part number: mcg-65554
I HAD the Gorilla lugs and I've found the McGard spline drive lugs and keys to be much nicer and easier to use than the Gorillas'. I highly recommend this set!

Those look nice Any problems with rust on the studs at all? Also any idea on which thread pattern we have (since we still can't search).
