Looking for brake pads, which are the best?

The subject line says it all. I just got a set of cross drilled & slotted rotors, what are the best brake pads out there? Are some pads better on X-drilled & slotted rotors than other pads?

thanks

Libardo

I 2 need new brake pads soon. There's alot of posts here about which is the best. Right now I'm thinking I may try the Raybestos Quiet Stops.

I was eyeing those also, but I've heard a lot of people using Metal Masters, so I wanted to see what peoples opinions were.

thanks for the input.

Well if you don't mind brake dust then the Porterfield R4-S's are top notch. They are quiet and yield much better stopping power than stock pads. They are also ready for the track (fade resistant).

I like the PBC metal-matrix (?) pads. I forgot the exact model but it was a PBC one..really good. Much better than stock.

I have Raybestos Quiet Stops on 2 cars. Quiet, minimal dust and stop much better than OEM. Best price I've found is at www.rockauto.com about 25% less than Pep Boys!

I love my Hawk Streets! ***MUCH*** better than OEM!

Some cold, first thing in the morning, grinding. No squealing.

A lot more dust but I wash my car at least once a week.

I am certainly putting on another set. Too boot, they are about the same price as the theifs... er... dealers whant for OEMs. (the good ones)

I know alot of people have and like the Axis metal masters, however I believe they do need to be warmed up for there true braking power. For this reason, I decided to look into other pads.

I have the Metal Masters with Stillen X-Drilled rotors. They stop excellent, you really don't notice the difference between hot and cold stops that much. Very smooth, quiet stopping power and almost no dust. I like that part the most.

I installed a set of Quiet Stops on an members car, they are really nice pads. They also come with all the shims, unlike the Metal Masters.

I'm on my second set of Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads. They do need a little heat to stop strong, but's not that big of a deal on the street. I always use a brand new brake hardware kit from Nissan to install. (New shims & New clips)

Car & Driver reduced the stopping distance of a Pontiac Bonneville by 10% by swapping these pads onto it. They are great. No noise and dust is about the same as OEM.

Plus, they are only $32 at AutoZone. They are only available for the fronts on our cars. I use Nissan OEM (NOT KeyValue) in the rear.

Couldn't agree more. Best brake pad I've ever used. I'll use nothing else.

I also agree - porterfield R4S are the best. You pay for it (they cost twice as much as the nearest competitor), but they are hands down the best brake pads for the Maxima. I will not use anything else.

I also 100% agree, porterfield pads are the best hand down, worth every penny. Go for it and you will never look back.

It's a train...wooo...I also agree too. Will not use anything else. With open spoke wheels, dust never gets too bad, especially with a 5-speed when you can naturally use the engine to slow you down (not downshifting, just letting the rpms fall).

I will use nothing else...they're very gentle on the rotors too since they're a soft kind of composite.

go to their website...call 'em up and tell them you're from maxima.org. I think we've arranged a permanent group deal w/ them, and you'll get a nice price.

or..here, at the bottom:

Same here... I like 'em and they are not overpriced. They stop well and give me great control in all conditions... that is what I am looking for. I would want to see 70-0 comparison charts before I start paying any significant amount of money for different pads.

As for the X-drilled/slotted pads... won't really matter I don't think. You would have a hard time convincing me that the X-drilled/slotted do anything significant for the stopping power of a Maxima anyway. They are mostly for looks IMO.

With that said, I have x-drilled on my car...

It really depends on how you drive but mine look like they will go about 25-30k miles for the fronts. My stockers lasted twice as long.

Porterfeild

I have had porterfeild R-4S pads for about two weeks now and took my car auto Xing with them and I love the pads. I had no brake fade and great stopping power. Brake bite is much much better than stock and I have had absolutely no squealing. Have noticed more brake dust than stock but I don't mind because of their great performance. In that two weeks I have driven about 1500 miles on the pads. Had to go to Vegas for the auto cross event (about 1000 miles of driving).
