New best with the MEVI/JWT ECU: 14.45@99.51mph
Kansas City International Raceway
1100' above sea level
50s, 10mph cross wind, 30.1 baro pressure
JWT ECU
MEVI
hacked stock airbox
WSP non-mandrel y-pipe
UDP
2001 Maxima muffler
15" sawblades with brand new Sumitomo H-rated tires @ 32psi
17" ASA LS5 in the rear @ 38 psi
Struts front and rear max firmness
no spare, full interior
1/4 tank of gas with ~95 octane
Today was opening day at the track. My track finally got resurfaced so everyone was hoping for the best. The place was absolutely packed (3 times as people as I've seen there). Unfortunately the new surface is, well, new. No rubber on the track means a super slick launch pad. My motor was smoking hot because I had to get in line before the lines would become extremely long. ALL runs were HOTLAPPED, NO cool downs.
Now with the excuses out of the way, my first run was a 14.62@96.7mph with a 2.38 60'. Personnel best, but disappointing. Next run was a 14.58@97.1mph with a 2.32 60'. Getting there, getting happy. On the next run I had enough time to play. I changed my MEVI switchover from 5300rpm to 5000rpms because I sounded like my MEVI wasn't opening till an indicated 5800rpms. I launch, still spin pretty bad thru 1st. The tires hook at around 5000rpms, they barely chirp into 2nd (they had been spinning bad before). Hold on to 3rd and pray. The run felt okay and I didn't think it would be a best for the day. I get the timeslip and here's the run down
60' 2.316
330' 6.211
1/8 9.398
MPH 77.09 mph
1000 12.150
1/4 14.451
MPH 99.51 (pics coming soon)
The simple change in lowering the switchover made a HUGE difference thru most of 3rd. Look at the pathetic 60' too. There's a solid .2 of a second in ET if I can get back to my normal lower 2.2s. There you have it, the MEVI/JWT plain works. My best before was a 14.68@97.7mph (kind of a freak MPH that day) without the MEVI. On average, I was usually getting deep 96mph traps with the MEVI only. The near 100mph trap speed was what was shocking though. Gaining 22.5mph in the final 1/8th is what I really like. That's topend. I usually get 22mph in the last 1/8 and I wasn't sure if the MEVI/JWT would keep the high topend or not. It did. After that run I parked it in hopes of running once more later, but it just got way too packed. I'll wait and run again when the track is better broken in. I wish I could run at sea level because I'm pretty certain this car could go 13s with a 2.1X 60' the way it sits.
ShortChaz pulled his personnel best in his stock G35 of a 14.7X@96mph and VQMan pulled a PB of a 14.8X@95mph in his stock 6 speed 2003. Both of these guys were also having trouble getting off the line.
On average, I was very competitive with the 99+ Mustang GTs at the track with my trap speed exceeding theirs usually. The LS1 F-Bodies were getting mid 13s @ 106mph on average, a SC Z06 going 12.2@120, SC Cobras going mid 12s@112, brand new Viper going 13.0@115mph. LOTS of modified LS1s, LT1s, 5.0s, 4.6s, etc were running dismal high 14s/low 15s due to the crap traction with many of them skating dang close to the wall.
So there you have it. The car did exactly what I wanted. My goal today was a 14.4@98mph+. I got it and I know she can do a lot better.

As for the props, when I came rolling in to park my car after the run, a guy pointed at my car and said "that thing is running 14.4@100mph, he must have something done to it". I popped the hood to let her cool down and a handful of younger guys drooling over a few Honda/Acuras parked next to came over and looked over at my engine compartment. They asked what I ran and I told them a 14.4. They then asked what I had done and I told them intake, exhaust, UDP, ECU (I guess I was bending the truth a little) and the looks on their face was One yelled to his GSR friend asking why he could only get mid 15s when a sedan with less work was going a lot faster. There's was no reply from the GSR guy.
I got plenty of props from other Org'ers today including GuidoSST, KSU1998, VQMan, ShortChaz, JustinMC, and Soon2BMaxed.

Hey, I don't have full exhaust, just a Y-pipe and 2001 muffler. I don't have a B-pipe anymore
I see what you're saying though. Once the track gets worn in, my 60 foots should improve even with street tires. I'm sure I'll go again before it gets too warm. The dyno is next.

Dave, you really owe it to yourself to go to a decent track somewhere so you can run a good et, because your mph is amazing. If you come down to Alabama sometime you will be able to hit a 2.1 60 ft time and run a 13 second pass at over 100 mph. You car is a beast, but your track doesn't show it. If I can hit a 2.1 60 ft time in my auto then surely you can too.

I like your style. Embarassing the GSR guy was a nice touch. Good run!

I think what dave is saying is that the car isn't a race car. And he cant wear slicks on the street. I don't think dave is shooting for the lowest ET record. I think he just wants to see how much he can squeeze out of the car in daily trim.

You wouldn't have believed how many people were there. There were probably 200 cars in front of me when I got there at 1130 and by 1200, there were probably 300 cars behind me. I've never seen the track so packed, but it was opening day. We'll have to set up a Sunday in April so you can come up. It shouldn't be near as busy from here on out. Hopefully by then the track will have been broken in too. I think the main reason the track's slickness was because the concrete was fresh and it hasn't rained for a while therefore a lot of concrete dust was all over the first 330'. The track is glass smooth now. Gone are the horrible dips and undilations. The return road is great too. You'll like it.

I'm not going for the NA record because I don't see the point in striping my interior, running slicks, carbon fiber hoods, etc because it's just a sedan, not a race car. With that said, I'm in NO WAY ******* what Neal, Ethan, BluByu2k, Mardigras, and the other fast guys have done to get their stellar ETs. I think it's awesome to see what these cars can ultimately do. I just want to see how far I can push it in mostly stock appearing form, kind of "what you see at the track is what you get on the street" for the most part. I'll save the slicks, stripped interiors, etc for my future track car.

99.51mph woohoo. That's awesome. And by the way you spun in first I bet your car has another .5-1.0mph in it. I don't subscribe to that idea that more wheelspin = more mph, I believe it's the other way around. It always is that way for me.
No I wasn't supposed to go to the track today, that's next saturday assuming the weather cooperates. I'm getting the itch though, seeing you and 96sleeper put down new record times and trap speeds
I've got alot of stuff to do before then to get ready. Get the slicks back on the rims, put the CF hood back on, replace the windshield, possibly replace the hub

Also, a 5300rpm switchover apparantly doesn't work for ulimate performance. Keep your VIM at 5000rpms if it isn't already. When I hit 3rd @ ~5200rpms, I was already in the switchover YO!!! It was MadD FuRious!!!
I'm eagerly awaiting your runs. You'll be very happy.
