Variable intermittent wiper doesn't work.
A friend of mine has a 96 SE with stock basic wiper stalk. The variable setting doesn't work. It goes
off off normal fast He's picked up a variable stalk and installed it. It still doesn't work. Any thoughts? |
Well, the actual variable portion on it is when the wiper is on the first setting. Tell him/her to turn the outside dial to the shortest "marks" and to turn the wiper on one position down. See if this works. The actual variable settings is only for the 1st position.

Yes you are correct. With the basic non variable unit if you turn it on it should quickly swip... then pause... then swip... but nothing.
The new variable unit does the same thing. In the variable setting it does nothing... The variable setting is like the dixey chicks. Useless and just taking up space... |
Huh, so you are saying that it isn't even working? Well, if so, and you are sure it is not working, then it is defective. I have replaced two, one 96 and one 98, wiper stalks from the stock non-variable switch to the variable one and both have worked flawlessly. I would say it is defective. Probably, the rotary switch in the variable switch is defective, rendering the whole thing useless.

The stock switch and the one he just purchased both bad? I'd hope his luck is better then that.
