that EVAP control valve

wasn't that simple to get at. I think it's green, because there are 2 things involved, one was white with 4 tubes, and another green with 2 tubes. I sprayed WD40 into the green one, because the other was clearly not blocked. The electrical leads are very delicate and it's a shame they didn't make them of a higher quality from the factory. I'm not sure how one would go about replacing them because there is so little wiggle room.

Hopefully that service engine lamp will now stay off. If not, I probably have to let the dealer take care of it!

The EVAP control valve that usually gives problems is the one that is bolted directly to the big, black charcoal box behind the driver's side rear tire. It has a larger diameter hose hooked directly to it.

DOH! Then I'm not sure what the white one with 4 tubes or the green one with 2 tubes are--I just remember somebody say once that the only thing hard about it is getting the tubes off--which was true. I saw the big one, but that was easy to take off. I took it off in order to get to the bolt which would allow the bracket to come off for the white thing. I'm not sure I could find the other end of the large diameter hose, though...

i had this problem pop up on both of my 4th gens.

Did the same thing for both, removed the canister. removed the EVAP Canister control valve, washed it with water, sprayed WD-40 on it, reassembled everything, put it back on the car and reset the ECU. Never came back.

I am not sure exactly what it does, and i don't see how/if it can cause any harm to the car. It still drives the same, i passed the emissions inspection with it with no problems.. just the light is annoying.

i honestly don't remember what exactly it looked like, but i do remember taking off that white thing with 4 tubes..
it's all really quite simple..

I guess if the light comes back I'll try it one more time...the white thing looked like it couldn't possibly be clogged because I could hear the air go through it. The white thing had 2 of its tubes go to a green thing, now that thing had 2 electrical leads which lead me to believe that it could possibly fail. Then the large tube from the canister, I'm not sure where the other end went. It's frustrating how every time you take a cover off from the Maxima the plastic snaps just disintegrate!!

No such luck, the lamp is back on, yipee! I may try to blow compressed air into the parts, I really don't know if it'd make any difference at this point. Arrrgh I hate to turn the car over to Nissan.......
