Wheel Socket? Where to get?

OK, I have Konig rims (Verdicts) and have gotten a couple "thin walled" sockets for the nuts. I cant use a standard size because its to "thick". Problem is that I keep breaking them, the shop keeps breaking them....its getting old.

Where can I get a STEEL or non-composite socket? I have looked around locally and all I get is . I hate to buy online w/o getting some feedback.

So if someone could be kind enough to point me in the correct direction I would appreciate it.....

If your breaking the sockets your torquing the lugs to tight. Even thin wall 3/8" drive sockets should be able to handle 80 ft/lbs of torque.

Actually when I break them, its after having the car serviced. No matter HOW many times I tell them 80-82 Ft/lbs, its always torqued to the point of death. I am tired of going back, screaming, waiting, getting the wrong parts and so on. When anybody pulls my wheels, the first thing I do when I carefully drive home is break the nuts loose and retorque them.

I have seen these steel ones, just need to figure out where to get them.

They make sockets that aren't steel??? That's new to me. Of course, cheap sockets are going to be made out of cheap steel, so try to find a good name-brand one, like Snap-On.

Maybe you can get the service manager to let you do the final nut torquing.

Hmmm, good point. I have broken Craftsman and "Gorilla" sockets. They are the "silver" sockets. But once they break...looking at does not make me think steel.

The one I am thinking of is "solid" black and seems to be tempered differently somehow. Looks like it goes on the end of an air tool.

Re: Wheel Socket? Where to get?

When I bought my Tantrums from Discount Tire I also bought the Gorilla lugs and the thin wall socket to match-actually bought two of them. They are "black steel", thin to fit in the small lug holes of the Tantrums. Had them on now for a year, pulled the wheels off probably six to nine times, and the sockets show NO wear, have not cracked, etc. This is even after Bridgestone used an impact wrench once before I could stop them. So, very pleased with the Gorilla's.
