Ordered my ACT clutch today
Ordered my ACT clutch today
Decided not to bother with the lightened flywheel since its too pricey for the gains you get. Are there any other things I should look out for or make sure I get replaced when my mechanic is doing the clutch swap?
1) replace both tranny output shaft seals
2) replace the pilot shaft bushing(if worn)
3) make DAMN sure to get the flywheel resurfaced and make DAMN sure the flywheel/pressure place is CLEAN before installing.
4) Consider getting the stock flywheel lightened. 3 lbs. makes a little difference and the machine shop needs the unit to resurface it anyway.
5) put synthetic tranny fluid in. Might as well. You have to use new fluid anyway.
6) if you cv boots are torn/worn, now is the time to fix/replace them

You need a certain type of surface for the new disc to break in on. And with the ACT unit, it's even more inportant. Read the install instructions when you get it. It's very clear they want you to resurface it properly before installing it. It also makes sure the surface is perfectly FLAT. Since the ACT setup has a history of chattering, I'D make this a MANDATORY step. A couple of bucks now is cheap compared to thousands of miles of possible chatter later. It's not 100% that resurfacing will prevent chatter but why risk it?

Why is this so important? I've read several writeups that don't specify resurfacing the flywheel, rather just sanding them by hand.

I was considering getting the exedy clutch, but I just couldn't justify buying a clutch that I hadn't heard any reviews about yet. Most guys here say that ACT is the way to go, so thats what I'm getting. I know there are a few horror stories about people busting their trannys, but hopefully that won't be so much of a problem for me since 95% of the time I don't drive too aggresively. I'm just looking forward to being able to chirp my 18's once in a while, and being one step closer to having my car prepped for an NX kit.

Now i just have to wait for the flywheel. By the way the group deal is still on until April 24, for the exedy clutch. Plus if you look aroud that clutch is usually around $400.
