It's even Maxima related.

G35 coupe or STi for my future car

just wondering...how come we dont experience torque steering when we boost our car?

We do, it's just that we're always breaking the drive side wheel loose so we don't notice it as much. Quaife is next on my mod list.

Are you serious? You don't get torque steer? When i'm alone in the car, and floor it past 4000rpm the car usually jerks pretty sharply to the left or right, back and forth as I try to keep control of the steering wheel. Downshifts are usually even worse. 5-3 highway downshifts @70mph aren't nearly as powerfull as 5-2 @40mph for some reason though, they don't seem much improved over when I was naturally aspirated. Everything else is though.

Even with Linear boost, we should all get the torque steer to some degree. My mom just got a 2003 Infiniti G35 (265hp, 5spd auto, 270tq, RWD). I usually complain about my SC'ed Maxima power being too "smooth", but after driving that thing, my car feels like a torque monster. Maybe i'm used to my Max, but that thing seemed incredibly slow, like no where near the 0-60 figures they are claiming. I guess it's just the incredibly smooth drivetrain.

Anyways, racing in a straight line from a roll is probably the only time RWD has no benifit over FWD.

Re: Re: Re: Interesting article on FWD vs RWD

hmmm...maybe because I am auto?

it is hard to make auto downshift 2 gears (unless you do it yourself), the only time I can down shift from 4th - 2nd is when I floor the pedal at 55-65 mph. it give me a strong kick...but I didnt feel much torque steering.

the only time that I feel the car is out of control was when I shifted to first....floor the pedal from 5mph rolling. I needed two hands to hold the wheel and the tires screaming like crazy.

my car has not torque, btw. 238lb/ft and 273whp.

I forgot your Auto. Well there's your answer. The auto slips a little when shifting on purpose to give a smooth upshift/downshift. That's essentially what the VB mod is supposed to eliminate, but still nothing like a true 5spd.

231lb-ft? Why so low? Are you running extremely rich or something? I don't think the Vortech blowers make as much torque as they do HP, but you should be getting better then that. The VQ is a torquey motor (making more of it then HP stock) and responds well to mods torque wise. 42ft-lbs less torque then HP seems off to me...

Your also a 5th Gen....seems even weirder now.

G35 is probably next for me, but FWD is a great stepping stone to a good RWD car. In the rain, snow, etc. I'd definitely take FWD, and I'm from Texas so I don't even have as much snow experience as the Northeasterners. Even with AWD if you stay on it too much you'll lose the rear end.

RWD is fun to drive, but it takes a good driver to really keep things under control in adverse conditions or on a course. We're car enthusiasts so we're (hopefully) better than average drivers, but I would prefer to still have my car in one piece at the end of the day.

RWD and AWD are great platforms, but I would prefer experienced drivers behind the wheel. At times it's easy for you to lose control, and even easier for the new driver to do so.

I hope your not running as rich as I was on the 12:1 disc. I was losing like 40whp/40wtq from that.

man~ you started with a 12:1 disc? that's a lot of pressure to the injectors. mine's only 8:1 and it kicks me below 10:1 AFR after 3000 rpm @ 10psi.

Yep. 12:1 disc on a 3.33" pulley. He thought he heard detenation with the 8:1. I threw the 6:1 disc in a few days later, got 65psi FP at WOT and heard no detination. It's been great ever since. The power difference is incredible and i'm running alot less rich. Then again, it wasn't right starting with the 12:1 to begin with.

i used to drive a ford ranger. i really got to learn how to correct over steer in that thing. one blip of the trottle in the rain could make it fishtail. once you get used to driving rwd it isnt a problem, but when i turned 16 and got that truck i about drove myself off the road a couple times.
