Serious Ignition Circuit help needed.

I am getting 0201 code. Ignition circuit fail.

I have checked every coil pack and the Ignition condensor. I checked the voltage on the coil packs and condenser. I checked the ground on the coil packs. ALL checked good

I have even changed my coil packs and condenser

Now here is where it gets a little tricky.

I did check the ECU for the .01 V - .1 V and either my meter sucks and can't pick it up or my ground was not good.

SO I gotta redo that.

Also , the stripped wire that my RPM switch is hooked up to is the signal wire from the ECU to the Coil pack. I am getting a LOW resistance reading there when power is NOT applied to the car ( ignition is OFF )

When there is power ( ignition ON ) it reads just like every other coil pack.

I have had my RPM switch hooked up for about 1 year 6 months and the code just started about 1 month ago.

I am curious if anybody else with an RPM switch hooked up to the coil is getting the same reading I am.

But as far as I can tell there is only 3 things it could be, BAD ECU, Bad wires, or bad connection for the tapped in RPM switch.

I am really posting this to see if anybody can see something I missed or maybe did not see.

Thanks

Ok, I could not get the voltage from the ecu directly.

I tried 2 different meters and they could not pick it up.

I did read voltage AT the coil packs and it was .04 vdc

Which I think is correct. This is driving me nuts. I was not able to do end to end checks on the wiring harness itself. I hope to do that in a day or so.

I checked my stuff against jay25's car and it was similar.

I also disconnected the rpm switch to see if that helped and it did not.

I might just take it to nissan, I just know they would sh*t themselves when they open my hood.

Well it seems as if nobody has any input... guess that means folks are busy on easter.

Oh well

Take that RPM switch off and your codes will go away. I remember somebody else on here a while back had the same exact problem. I don't remember how he got around it, but I'm sure it was his RPM switch that caused it.

It could be something simple like a bad relay.

Im drawing blanks on this one.

Don't know if you're refering to me (kinda doubt it) but I'm in the same boat. I'm getting 0201 codes, and I think its because of the RPM switch (harlen) that's spliced into my coil.

I'm taking it out this week (selling it with the nitrous kit), so we'll see if it fixes it.

I did that and the code came back

I unhooked it reset the ECU and started it 2 times and the magic code came back

sr20den bad relay hhmmm.. I will look into that thank you

ejj- how long did you have your rpm switch hooked up?

Did you use the relay from radio shack?

Which coil is it hooked to?

thanks for the help

Its still hooked up. I'm taking it off this week, but then putting another one on in a while.

I used it for a Nitrous setup, so it was using the relay NOS provided in their kit. It was spliced into Cyl 5 (front right if looking down at the engine).

you might try to go to Nissan and get them to read the real code with their scanner, instead of doing the flashing CEL thing. It can be a little vague. I had a 0201 code one time and it was the MAF sensor, which was accidentally unplugged while the car was running. I couldn't figure it out, so I took it to the dealer to get them to read the code.

I thought about that, I just thougth the MEVI and the TURBO might scare them. I will shoot there today..

So they can do a diagnostic and single out the part?

I was thinking this is a wire. I hope not.

Thanks big guy

and ejj mine is hooked up to #1 and using the relay just trying to make a comparision.. thank you

np. I'm going to be keeping one installed for my MEVI, and I'd love to get rid of the CEL, so keep us posted if you find anything out.

I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that the Consult Nissan will use will tell you which coil is throwing the code. I know we can assume that its the ones that we're tapping into, but other than that there's no real way to test. We aren't loosing performance or anythign associated with a normal 0201 code.

Does 0201 set off the CEL or just show the code when you pull codes? My Harlans are on coil 3, but I don't have a CEL

I have a CEL for other things (O2) as well. When I pull the code (which I do reguarly to keep tabs on them), I get both.

No I do not. I wish though

And ejj I checked and changed all 6 coils

hype, CEL comes on and I get the 0201 when i start the car..

I was thinking maybe the crank postion sensor.. not to sure I have not had the time to look at the FSM on that.

I am going to the dealer in about 20 minutes.. I am gonna talk to them before I agree to have them look at my car

If it gets fixed I will let yall know

Thanks for the help

No, they can't look at it until friday.

I went to team nissan, josh's step dad works there and he hooked me up with a guy and he passed me onto another guy. so it may or may not work out.

Debating on wether or not I want to go there or town center they have been known to work on modded maxima's.

I am gonna throw it on the lift after work and look at the crank postion sensor to see if it looks ok and what it's resistance reading is.

But I do not have a warm fuzzy on Nissan
