what a pain, took 2 people about 8 hours to do, I still need to do the headliner and the front door panels which I did not want to take off an extra time to avoid potential rattles later.
I noticed another difference between 95 and 97+ maximas that was not emphasized before. Turns out Nissan decided to cut some cost by reducing the dampening on the floor under the carpet. the charcoal carpet I got out of a 95 is at least 1/2" - 3/4" thicker than the 97 i took out of my car. Not a big deal, but it was one of the things I noticed right away. Plastics are a bit different in texture but overall, I'm very happy with the results. No more tan!

I'm always impressed with these swaps. Looking at the "during" pics, it's just amazing you know where everything needs go. It reminds me of when I was doing my VI install. I kept telling myself, "deep breathes, relax, take your time, it looks bad now, but it will be okay as long as you label everything."

To be honest I never understood why people didn't like the tan interior. It always seemed more luxurious than black to me. 
Anyways looks like you did an excellent job, and I'm sure your installed everything better than Nissan did.

the tan interior in 4th gens doesn't do anything for me. Too yellow and bland, gets dirty fast..
my only regret about doing this is not buying lots of dynamat or a similar product and sound deadening the entire floor. Golden opportunity.
I do feel/hope that I put everything in better than it was from factory, i noticed quite a few parts were attached loosely and wires or connectors were in the way of each other or in ackward positions behind the dashboard, potentially causing some rattles.. I taped off some wires and loose plastics with duct tape hoping to avoid any rattles.. there were many bolts that were surprisingly loose as well.. I do not notice the center console rattle that i had before this. there was another one coming from under my glovebox somewhere, haven't heard it yet.

did you get a black ebrake handle? Its a little more of a job to do since you have to replace the whole mechanism in the console not just the handle..
at least you didnt have crap all over the inside like izzy

How did you do the roof and how much did it all cost you? :P I got my max about 1 month 2 months ago and I REALLY wanted white on black interior but I got stuck with white on tan... Where did you get the peices? Do a writeup for us :P

check the 4th gen for sale forum. "cbr1" is selling a complete black interior for 400$. I got mine from him as well. I can only reccomend that you locate a whole car and take out the entire enterior and buy it as one, instead of trying to locate every little part because that will take forever, there is a lot of parts. I have not done the roof yet, but i will most likely dye it charcoal, or if not, auto upholstery shops should probably charge 100-150$ to re-upholster it.
Sorry, the write up will be too long and detailed to write, it's really not all that hard or tricky, just take precautions and remember what goes where.. be cautious with things like the air bag. Disconnect the battery. Keep a Chiltons or a Haynes manual in reach incase you are not sure how something works or is supposed to be removed.
there are a 3 other people i can think of on the org that have done the interior conversion before me, if I did not see that it was possible, i would never attempt it myself.

very nice, always wanted the black interior myself , maybe later on in the line or i will wait till i trade mine in for a 5 spd and make sure it comes with black interior, great job, you could probally buy black vinly paint to paint over ebake or buy one of those nice fancy handles that cover it up
weird...i have the all black leather interior, and i wanted to make it half beige and black like BMWs...what do you guys think? what's the problem with beige?

Looks good. How did you swap the passenger airbag cover? Is it part of the dash cover, or part of the airbag? Some of my color on mine is coming off, so I need to find out what it takes to replace it or paint with vinyl paint. My interior is still tan (and cloth), which works out real good in Louisiana summers. But that black does look nice, and would definitely be different on my white '97...

the tan interior does look more luxurious, well not really, only if u have a fully loaded SE or a GLE with the climate control leather and everything. If you have a cloth interior, my honest opinion is to swap it like nyce did which i think is a big improvement. Black normally looks more sportier than beige which is why i like mine better. You have all these maxima owners going for the lighter sportier rims, the red/clears, the spoiler, the exhaust, most people arent trying to go sporty with their maxima's. Plus if nyce maxima gets wood grain, his new black leather interior will look a lot more luxurious than the cloth beige he had...well this is only my opinion Originally posted by Vyrus
