I have a 95' maxima with a turbo in it. It's an automatic and when i go at 40mph or fast on the highway the car starts to surge or "buck" just aobut when the turbo kicks on....at 40mph. When I put it in overdrive it stops doing it? What could be the problem? Thanks a lot!!!

Dunno if it's the turbo or not cause I know absolutely nothing about them.

I do know those symptoms can sometimes be caused by bad O2 sensors. maybe try to check that out and see what you come up with.

Props on the turbo, and good luck with your problem!

You said that when you turn the OD on, it stops. What RPM are you running up to in 3rd gear before you turn OD on? Also which model of turbocharger do you have? If it's too small, you might be spinning it too fast, causing it to cavitate and have trouble holding boost.

MaxGuy57 I don't..............

...know what turbo set up you have, but if you don't have a blow-off valve kit that could be the problem or your boost controller. I would go with a Fuzzy-Logic boost controller set up. I know HKS and Greddy, and Blitz have good ones.

Maybe it's your transmission going bad on you. The surge could be caused by a slip and then sudden engagement of your tranny.

Your turbo kicks in at 40mph? Funny, I always thought those things were dependent on RPM. Putting it in overdrive doesn't state much. If you're going 40mph and turn on overdrive.. You're going to 4th.. The tranny may not even go in to 4th till you let off the gas. Maybe you should go back to the place that installed the blow drier for you. Hee hee.. Anyways, take it back to the shop. Cuz if you installed it yourself. You would have a clue whats up.

My experience

coming from my SC'ed 1989 Saleen Mustang with a 302 in it that had the same type of problem. We looked all over the car and it came down to a bad Mass Airflow Sensor made by C&L. It was a 73mm version and when we switched it out to a different brand it cured up the bucking. Could also be plugs, air/fuel ratio going from lean to rich when you get into boost or any other number of things. My best advice is for you to take it to your local dyno shop and tell them about your problem. Schedule a time to let them test drive your Maxima to show them what you are talking about and maybe even do some testing on the dyno. If they know their stuff they should be able to pinpoint and correct the problem. Hope that helps but keep us informed.
