The Best Maxima

Just wanted to get some input on buying a Maxima. I want to buy the best Maxima that I can do some mod's, (turbo or SC, intake exhaust....yaddaa). I have seen some late 90's that run real quick. But I wanted to get some input on the 2002 and 2003 newer Maxima's.

Thanks for all of the help and advice in advance.

I think the 4th gen (95-99) or 5th gen (00-03) has the most to offer when it comes to the aftermarket world. The 5th gen mods are still in the works so they might come out with more or even the same.

The 4th gen has more mods available at this point than the 5th gens. But there are mods being developed all the time for 5th gens so in time it has awesome potential. That's of course if you want to drop the $$$$$. The 2k2, and 2k3 have a 3.5 liter engine that is very quick. The largest yet for the Maxima. I believe there is a turbo in the works for that year.

'02 would be best

This is the reply I had sent to 2Y4 buyers:

Sure the quad exhausts are cool. And 10 more horses never hurt. But what's with the roof that doesn't open, and the hideous
" French " look grille. I could of bought one, but instead I just bought an '02 with 4800 miles on it about a week ago. The '02 still smells brand new ( pics w/mods coming soon ). It costs $ 10,000 less and personally I think it looks looks 10,000 times better. And I didn't have to support Renault. Oh, and I still have his Super Black older brother for sale ('98 SE leather LOADED!) if anyone's interested. Coincidently, a much better Bose in the '98 than the '02. Wish I could take it with me, but here comes the Basslink.

You can use a JWT ECU in 97s and 98s also.. it throws a code however, but its not a big deal. The 97-99 4th gens have a nicer front end and you can get red/clear tails much more easily.

My cousin's got a 2k3 auto, that thing redlines like you wouldn't belive (that's a good thing). But the SE model doasn't feel like my 2k which upsets me.

1st gens are the best maxima period. They are RWD and Z rear end parts swap over and just about any engine you want can swap over also. The only bad thing is the boxy early 80's styling.

A regular sunroof is available. It's just an option, as it has always been.

And I didn't have to support Renault.
Renault has been affiliated with Nissan since even before the 5th gen was introduced.

i think there is no such thing as the best maxima. however, i do think the best performance maxima is def. the 95-96 GXE 5spd, since you can get the ECU, the MEVI, an array of y-pipes all for cheap, since most people have that car. however, as far as looks go, id say the best maxima is the 2k2/2k3 GLE in white. if you ever see one you'll understand.

the choice is really up to you though. i think your best bet is a 95-96 GXE, but thats just my opinion.

Re: The Best Maxima

If I had the funds and had to be a maxima, it would be an 02 or 03 6-speed maxima without question.
