Is there any way to install the OEM splash guards on the Maxima (or any car fo rthat matter) while protecting the paint at the point where the guard actually touches the body?
I do not mean the mounting points (which are in the fender/wheelwell area), but instead I am referring to the body surface where the plastic of the guard molds to fit and look fitted to the body.
The edge of the guard will come into contact, and while they will protect the more rear-ward parts of the lower doors and lower fenders, the actual contact points look like they will cause some damage to the paint.
Any suggestions? My maxima has scratches from the guards, and we want to put guard on my wife's almost-new 2K3 Celica, btu I want to see if there is a way to protect the paint first.

I just thought of the answer to my own problem- that 3M "Clear-Bra" tape...now I need to know where to get it.

Get some small rubber edging and line the edges of the mud flap with it, then install them.
