Thinking about getting these for a cheap replacement since I burn through tires like butter anyway. Found them for about $67 on tirerack.com.

I don't like 'em much. I bought them for my car, when i got my wheels. They slip too much, and i have a **** load of wheel hop. Maybe I am not good at launches yet.

Kumho 712s are a pretty good tire, especially for the price. They do well in the dry, but are also good in the wet. I've used them for autocrossing/track use, and they've help up to lots of abuse. No chunking or flat spots, and the tires have very little sidewall flex (which you may feel some in your ride).

The only other tire I even compare the 712s with would be Falken Azenis. The Azenis are about the same price and are better in the dry, but the treadwear rating is very low. The Kumhos are also better in the wet than Azenis.

I have them on my wifes stang and here is my opinion of them. DRY: cornering is average, there is not much communication as to when the tires are going to break loose though, so if you like to take corners build your speed up and don't plow into something.( I corner hard so I have some moderate chunking) Braking and launching are above average. WET: Above average all the way around for handling, they stick when you would otherwise think they wouldn't. Excellent wet braking and launching, you cannot go wrong here. I love these as a rain tire but think they fall short as a good summer tire. A few general tips though. They are a very hard compound rubber and as such transmit road noise, also they are tricky on very smooth asphalt and pavement. They will slide easily on very smooth surfaces because of the hard compound. For the money you are getting a good deal.

Note: snow + 712s = instant and horrible death

Other than that, they are great in wet/dry

well I have the 712's on my celica... they're excellent dry weather tires but when it starts raining, don't try any fancy turns.

You have to make sure you rotate them every 3k miles to ensure maximum mileage outta them... the celica has had em on for about a year now or maybe even some more, i forget.

Cheapest place to get them? Well, I took a quote from tirerack.com and went to an American Tires Co. in which they matched the price and added a $14 per tire (shipping/handling)...

1. Traction is better than stock. 10x better IMO.
2. I paid 109 a piece for 18s..
3. you know the answer already.
4. Had for about month now. All i can say is that they look nice, i have sooooo much better grip with these. I would get them again.

Also look at Yoko AVS ES100, there great in the rain and dry. In 17s, i think the Yoko and Kumho are both tread rated at 280. My friend has Ecsta 712s on his Max, while i have AVS ES100s, both in 225-55/16. Their decently grippy...

2. bout $75 a piece
3. shop around probly tire rack
4. i got a total of 18k miles out of them
which i thought was terrible
5. absolutely worthless in any kind of snow
6. had wheel hop with these tires

they are cheap and decent for the money i got them before the set
of bridgestone potenza 950 i have now .. the potenzas are wearing
better got at least 20k on em now and they still got between 3 and
4/32 left on em the kumhos were close to bald at 18k

One of my friends has those Kumhos on his M3, and he likes them. They have great dry weather traction and are fairly quiet, overall a good value for money. However beware in rain they do NOT grip well at all and they are fairly soft tires which chunks can come out of easily.

I have 235x40R18's bought for $110/each from Tirerack. Launches are very hard, but dry traction is OK. What I like is wet traction, really grips. This is a summer tire, you can not use it in temps below 60 degrees. Treadwear is OK, I have about 10K miles on it and looks fine. For the money, you can't beat it.

they are GREAT tires, have them in 225-55/16...highly recommend them...

Mine are on

They handle much better than the H-rated RS-As that were on there. The steering is much sharper and the handling has lost that little but of "mush". They are a little quieter too, but the noise itself is a little higher pitched than before.

The downside is that the tire place scratched the living hell out of my rims. We'll see what they are going to do about it when I go talk to the manager tomorrow.
