235's on 7" rims and 245's on 7.5" rims
235's on 7" rims and 245's on 7.5" rims
Are either of these safe? The 5th gen I just bought my wife has 235's on the stock rims (which I believe are 7" width). I remember there being an argument over one of these width/tire sizes a while back, but I can't search and don't remember all the details.
Also, I'm looking at 18x7.5" rims and 18x8" rims. I know I can put 245's on 8" wide rims, but what about 7.5"? Is that the grey area? I think there are people with that combination, but I want to know how safe it is. There are so many nice rims that only come in a 7.5" width and I have to have 245's for the sake of the slightly larger sidewall (read: comfort) and the increased (albeit small) contact patch. If I have to, I will find rims with an 8" width, but if 7.5 isn't out of the question, I can check them out.
Any info or links to other threads would be appreciated.

A 245/40 tire on a 7.5" rim is overkill and probubly isn't safe. The thinest rim you would want to put that tire on would be an 8" wide rim.
On a side not, get the 18x8 inch wheel over the 18x7.5....you will thank me later.

Craig - I am leaning toward a rim that is 8" wide right now, but I LOVE the Nakayama stuff - and all of it is 7.5".
