i am maxima-less for the next 2 weeks... so far, im ****ed

Well, after much debating w/ my dad, i decided to leave it up to him on what to do w/ the tranny... he chose a tranny shop that's only a couple miles from our house, and also my dad has had experience w/ em.

I talked to the store owner, and he seemed nice enough. I told him that I wanted to see everything that was f-ed up in my tranny when they crack it open just because I was curious and he could tell me what all needs to be replaced. He's been quite flakey on me... i gave him a preference to meet up and show me the stuff, but when I got there today from work, he was not at the shop. The co-owner talked to me, and showed me the outside of the tranny (they dropped it). Fine, that was sorta satisfying... went home, called an hour later to talk to the original owner, and now he tells me they're sending my tranny to another shop for the rebuild!! He assured that I was in good hands and stuff, but i am sooooooooooooo paranoid becaues I have bad differential bearings. I told him that I wanted the shims replaced for the bearings and he said he will mention that to the other guy. blah, i best not have this problem again or i will be soooooo ****ed. At least the guy said that he will save the broken parts to show me.

I was thinking about throwing a fit and being ****ed because I had every right too.. i told him I was taking time off from work to meet up w/ him, and the ****er flaked on me. But then I thought if I start to ***** and whine now, he'll do a ****ty job on my car.

oh well... i'll let u guys know how it goes. I had em look over the exedy clutch and they will be puttin that in. He's throwing in free resurfacing for flyhwheel.. and for all my troubles, I will make him give me a free front toe alignment too hahah.

But yeah, these decisions were made last minute... i wanted to get the tranny fixed before I get the bodywork done on my car (neighbor backed into my car 2 weeks ago).

My car comes back from tranny shop on friday... i start to break it in over the weekend, and then the car goes to the bodyshop on the following monday for door replacement, repainting, and front fender repair.

In 2 weeks, my car would be like brand new (hopefully i will not have any problems )

Well, I'm finally back on the road, just took my first cruise in two months. But it wont be for long. I'll be down for about a week for the tranny conversion, and then once that's done, full respray with kit and spoiler. So I'm gonna be without my car for some of the summer. It'll be worth it, just as long as I dont have to drive my mom's minima anymore

BTW, having an extra motor to build up for boost saves some downtime

I'm doing the work myself.
and I will only have 2 days of down time, maybe more if I do get the tranny cryo treated.

Being Maxima-less does suck though.

yeah that thought has come across my mind... but since I am not paying for the tranny rebuild, I don't have much say about it.

I'm so freakin paranoid tho... i need to learn to just take it easy and allow the EXPERTS handle it. haha my gf was tellin me about how i dont know **** compared to the tranny guys and i should just be cool about it and let em handle everything. what a wake up call from her.

but seriously, the shadey tranny ppl really ****ed me off today. all i want is this differential bearing problem to go away... forever!

car should be back on friday. Hopefully i will have NO PROBLEMS for the weekend. Then, car goes back on monday, and i will start *****ing about the paint/body work haha. The bodyshop said they would not blend the paint, so i am paranoid about that. we shall see...

2hrs....

yeah dont mean to freak you out or anything but some tranny guys arent all they claim to be. A friend of mine with another vehicle has had 5 .."FIVE" transmissions replaced and put in his ride due to absolutely no fault of his. Cottman transmissions on highway6 in houston tx...funny thing is i also got mine done at cottman about 2yrs ago but a different branch. No probs so far. Just goes goes to show that not everything is what it seems. Just make sure, i emphasize, make sure you get a very good warranty. The labor of these babies is no joke.

warranty = 1 year / 12k miles.. whichever comes first

if the tranny goes bad on me, i will rebuild it myself! but then let's hope it doesn't get to that... at least 1 year , worry free. I just hope I dont run across a problem and have the ****ers tell me it's the aftermarket clutch's fault

out of curiosity, find out how much more it will cost to extend the warranty like 3 years or lifetime and see how confident they are in their work.

dent is goin to go away next week. this week, i squeezed my tranny rebuild in because i wanted to get the mechanical stuff outta the way... then by the time it gets outta the bodyshop (dropping it off on monday), i will have a nice clean car w/ an almost new tranny. I didn't want the tranny people to work on my car after it has been repainted on that side and washed/waxed by bodyshop.

Oh yeah - My max is in my workshop minus tranny (which I'm rebuilding).

2 days ? To do what? Just replace the clutch or do a full rebuild?

Here's what I have so far;

- 5hrs from rolling into the shop to putting the tranny on my workbench.... Including removing all engine bay components (clutch, starter, CPS, VSS), axles, Y-pipe ( PITA!) subframe, trns mount, support engine and drop tranny.

- 2 hours to figure out the disassembly of the tranny itself without any manual.

- 1 hour to remove the failed input shaft front bearing, press the new bearing on and reassemble the tranny components (haven't closed the case yet)

- 30 mins to remove the clutch components and flywheel.

This is where I am right now, waiting for parts (half-moon seals for bottom of rear main seal retainer that dealer orignally told me didn't exist when I ordered all the parts last week... )

My shop has air, and a 500ftlb impact wrench makes disassembly a breeze, especially for axle nuts and flywheel nuts. I learned long ago not to use a non-impact universal joint with an impact wrench, so the y-pipe was all by hand, with lots of PB Blaster. This work is progressing more slowly than a dealership would simply because I've not done the tranny on Maxima before, and every bolt/nut set that I remove is being placed in a labelled baggy, and all connections unhooked are labelled on both sides for easy reassembly.

blah! this is such gay****. the guy flaked on me twice today. I'm goin there w/ my dad after work to unleash some hell.

"yeah they've opened up the transmission but haven't gone through it yet"

apparently these *******s decided to send my tranny to a "standard transmission rebuild" shop. If they had told me that in the first ****in place, i wouldn't have wasted my time goin through them. argh how frustrating.
