So what's the word on Coilovers vs. springs/shocks? (Performance, durability, price, etc.)

My general understanding is that if you have coilovers, it substitutes for a spring/shock setup. But I've also seen some pretty outrageous prices on coilovers. So what do you think.

Help a brotha out? I'm trying to make a move within the next month. Thanks.
