Newbie: Help Me Decide What To Buy!

Hello all, just registered and would like some help.

Ive got $10k and need help deciding which year Maxima to purchase.

Are there any particular years you guys/gals would recommend?
Are there any performance packages that i should look for?

Im assuming a manual trans is the way to go, but i might have trouble convincing the wife on that option

Thanks ahead of time for all your help, i hope i can learn alot from all of you!!

Thanks Nis,

I did a search and didnt find any info earlier, but i just found a good thread a little lower down.

What do you think of a 98 GXE with 59k miles for $9995?
Its automatic and looks really good. SHould i go for it?
According to Edmunds, the price is just a hair below bluebook value.

Or should i go for a regular 98 with 56k for $8200?
(its white which is why i like it )

That isnt a GXE is it, im new so i dont know how to tell . What are the differences in GLE, GXE, SE?

I thought the SE was the lower model, but i saw one LOADED with EVERYTHING, leather, rear fin, sunroof, etc. Which one should i be looking for.

Thanks for your help!

go for the regular at $8200, it's the same as a GXE. the SE is the Sporty Edition and the GLE is the top of the line luxury BS.

the GXE has cloth seats but has the option of having a sunroof and power seat...... GLE is the "luxury version" SE can have all the options the GLE has but it also has a firmer suspension and white guages. for 10gees, i would try too look around for a 97-98 SE if your not looking into modding the car, such as changing suspension, rims, stereo. if you are looking into modding, then go for a gxe.

1995 Nissan Maxima SE 4D Sedan
Stock Number: 1797932
Exterior Color: Burgundy
Interior Color: Tan Cloth
Mileage: 99K
No Haggle Price: $7,998

Go to carmax.com and do a search by this number for further details. They have the cleanest and most consistent used car inventory I've ever seen.

This Maxima is in Dallas. If you are in Houston, then you can have the car shipped to one of the CarMax's there for $100 or so, and if you don't like it you don't have to buy it. The $100 will go towards the price of the car if you do decide to buy it.

The point to emphasize here is 5-speeds that are clean are HELLA hard to find.

95 & 96 5-speeds are the best ones to get. You will most likely find it on an SE model.

97 5-speeds are desireable as well, ESPECIALLY GXE ones.

Well no, but i thought that maybe there was a concensus about a preferred year or model.

Like i said, i have seen a few individuals recommend 97-98 cars so thats what i was looking at. I know there would be many biased opinions

Bill, thats a nice looking car over at carmax, but 99k miles is a bit much. That white one i posted a pic of only has 56k for $8200, granted its not standard, and i wish i could get it but the wife is giving me grief to get an Auto

the 97+ maximas had much better crash ratings than the 95/96 and IMO they have better looking headlights, taillights, and bumpers

Cool, then modify the Carmax search to accommodate your desires. There are several automagics in your area in your price range.

Look man, I made the mistake of getting an auto. I went to ALOT of trouble to get a manual. You WILL regret getting an auto...you can't let your wife put you on point like that.

Looks like i just about closed a deal guys!

Id like to thank you all and this board for helping me. Ill post pics later, but im suppose to have it home on Wednesday next week.

Im getting a 1997 GLE, jeez, that thing is awesome. The owner was an elderly lady and it has 80k miles. Yes its an auto but i can deal with it, ive never had what some might call a luxury car, ive been a 4x4 guy for quite a while and this thing kicks major booty!

Gold color, and tan leather interior in like perfect condition!

I'm sorry man. I just read my post again and realized I must have came off as a jerk! BTW, if you don't lower your GLE you will still be a 4x4 guy.

Sweet!! I can still go hunting and fishing then

J/K

Ive been learning little by little. Ive read that many here have gone with them adjustable shocks...err...struts and springs.

I do want a good ride, but i dont want a harsh one or a lowered vehicle thats gonna scrape every damn speed bump i come to.

Will i have to worry about that if i go with the struts and springs?

Well the struts and shocks will make the ride less harsh, but you do have a point about the scraping. Different brands of springs have different comfort levels as well. Just an hour ago I scraped big time entering my gym...I was so ****ed.

Ouch That dont sound too good

I dont know, ill have to read up some more and find a combo that still lets me drive up inclined driveways and BlockBuster Video speed bumps

Maybe i could at least improve the handling for now: Sway bar, adjustables, etc.
