Pulling a Trailer

I am moving a bunch of stuff with me back to school this year and I was going to rent a uhaul trailer.

Is it ok to pull a trailer, and to mount at hitch on a lowered maxima?

By the way the trip is about 1000 miles.

Your chains will probably be dragging on ever low dip or bump, but I would think that it would be ok. I've hooked up trailers to grand ams and civics, so you should be good.

The largest trailer you will be able to go though is a 5x8

Works great as long as you have a 5-speed. If you have an auto, you might want to consider a tranny cooler. Also put some extra air in your rear tires to help them support the trailer's weight.

I'd rather tow with an auto than a stick, as you'll typically have to slip the cluthc more when you're setting off - an action that does not cause wear in an auto.

Still, as long as you observe the total weight/tongue weight limits fropm Nissan you should be fine.

If it is an auto, I too would get a tranny cooler...

Technically an automatic transmission is slipping all the time except when the torque converter locks up at non-accelerating speeds. http://www.howstuffworks.com/torque-converter.htm And all that extra stress that it's dealing with while it's slipping... is very bad. That's why auto tranny coolers are recommended. I can slip my clutch in my manual and engage in less than 2 seconds, and even engage it below 1000 rpm.

I'd get a tranny cooler for any Nissan Auto Box towing or not. The tranny cooler will turn the trans into a different being, yes the trans will work correctly for the first time. Chris
