HOLY F*CK - SOMEONE PLEASE answer this for me!!!

BEFORE I LOSE MY F*CKING MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!



I'm soooo ****ed right now.

On the 98 Maxima - the dimmer switch for the lights - what do the blue, red/yellow, and black wires do, and what will happen if the blue wire NO longer attaches to the plug (i.e. I f*cking cut it accidentally, and now I cannot get a wire into the blue's slot).

I was installing indiglow gauges (DON'T BUY the 98-99 Reverse Indiglow gauges from AUTOBACS on e-bay. THEY DO NOT align properly!!!).

NOW I'm ****ed. I'm sure I've schwanzed my needles. I have cut my damn wire, and I was SUPPOSED to go to a BBQ tomorrow 5+ hours away with the Toronto Nissan guys

Help WOULD be appreciated

Maybe I'm not totally understanding, but why not just solder it back Either way what effect does the dimmer have on your gauges?

The dimmer is responsible for how bright your gauges are, apparently.

I'm beginning to think that the damn indiglows don't work...

I now get NO light for my speedo/tach/fuel/temp.

I have the positive wire from the indis going to the red/yellow wire off the dimmer now. And I'v grounded to the screw on the back of the gauge panel.

I wonder if that's the problem??

I say find a better ground than that screw

I've regrounded everything, and I've even changed the power location for the damned indiglow inverted.

I'm convinced that the damned blue wire being cut (and now NOT being able to be plugged in anywhere) is the source of my problems.

I'm also not sure if I've blown a fuse somewhere, and THAT's causing a problem.

I'm soooo damn tired of this. I've been doing it for 7 f*cking hours now. I could have installed a f*cking stereo in this time.

The blue wire is your power feed to all interior lights. Actually, isn't it a blue solid/yellow stripe wire?

You hook that back up, you'll power up your lights. Check the fuse also, for might have shorted it if the wire touched any grounded part.

I eventually got them working, and posted it, but thanks to my lack of sleep and the nice server, my message got deleted, and I was too bagged to retype it.

Some of my guagues aren't working as they should (I accidentally messed up my calibration on my fuel gauge, so I'll have to take it apart and play with that, but I've been using my ODO to check my distance travelled, and it shouldn't be a problem.
Also, thanks to the SHIATTY! workmanship on the design/measurements of the AUTOBACS gauge faces, nothing lines up perfectly. I had to drill holes to accomodate the little white calibration 'stems' the arrows rest on. It took me about 1-2 hours to prep the gauges properly - pain in the butt.
I like the looks, however, so it WILL be worth my time and effort in the long run... but it caused me to miss a massive Maxima meet so I'm bitter.
I'll go check the fuse shortly - you could be right, as I've lost my bulbs lighting up the needles (and I kept them in (drilled holes in the plastic to accomodate the wires, since the bulb holes weren't large enough to run through the connectors for the gauge faces)).

Anyone with a 98 SE with a digital odomoter who wants to know how I did it, I'll be happy to type up a description with pics at some point. The pics will be 'ghetto' since I only took about 4 during the process. I'll draw little arrows/circle stuff to help you out with what/where.

Anyways, I appreciate all your replies. I was very frustrated last night (as I'm sure you can tell), and your responses were well received

There is actually a built-in diagnostics mode on all Maxima meters with digital odo. Me and another .org member confirmed it quite a while back.

If you entered the diagnostics, the needles would be positioned at a fixed spot and you could mark it before removing the needles. After you're done, you can reenter the diagnostics and simply align the needles with the marks you made. More accurate.

But you've done, it so doesn't matter.

I wonder if I've messed up this diagnostic by pushing the needle past the "tension" point. I didn't take any markings of where I was, but I think I can figure it out, based on how much gas I filled up with this morning, then I'll reset it.
Pain in the *** to take apart again tho...
