I know a twin turbo system would be expensive, and that it would take up a lot of room... but given you have the money and can make room in the engine bay, would it be possible? What kind of performance might be expected in theory? Has anyone been brave enough to do this?

Yes you could. I even have some theories on how to. But why? Does the maxima need require two small turbos? Can the maxima even use the added boost two turbos can give? After all it's said and done, would have any more hp than a single turbo? Would any extra hp or boost be worth the 2x or 3x the expense?

Well when you think about the 300ZX TT, what kind of difference does that second turbo really make? To allow one to run all the time, while the other spools up after hitting a certain rpm range so you don't get as much lag. I'm just curious as to how much that would add, because the 300zx TT is a fast car w/o turbos, but it's a lot quicker with them, it'd be interesting to see this passed onto a Maxima.

No. The Nissan 300zTT does NOT run like that. They run parallel style turbos not sequential like the Supras. And no, it would be a ***** to intall sequential style ones also. Too many hoses, valves and ecu tweakes to consider.

The na 300z are not really that fast. Maybe when the first came out but not really by today's standards. They only have about 222 hp in na trim.

hehe yea, the Z doesnt use sequential turbo setup like Supras and others. I dont think its advisable to run a sequential turbo setup on a V6 motor. One bank is boosting first? weird...

Why not juss run a single turbo system. I cant see spending much more money on a twinturbo system when you prolly wont even benefit from.

i think quad turbo is better

i have a better idea for you ants92se, why don't you do twin sequential turbo setup on each bank? like supra, and also 300ZX all in one family/perfromance-sedan. even better we can make it AWD. who needs R34, when you have a Quad-turbo Maxima. if you have money, anything is possible!! heehee

or u can run a single turbo, and a supercharger. run the piping to the intercooler adn have a one way valve on the supercharger ilet where it goes into the intercooler, install a magnetic clutch on the sc pulley so it disengages at 4k rpm when the turbo spools up.. that should be cool..

The VQ really won't take much boost. The NA compression ratio is 10.0+ which means detonation is going to be a serious issue when running any kind of power adder. You might be able to get away with running 7psi on a single bank turbo. After reading about the turbo 5th gen in SCC, I was a bit disappointed because it only added 40+hp. The SC 5th gen gained a solid 80+hp if I remember right. A single bank turbo setup worries me because the motor was never designed for it. I believe Saab is the only company using this setup, currently.

There is no way you'll be able to do a twin turbo setup. Space is very limited between the firewall and block. And like others have said, there is a lot more to a turbo than just the turbo and plumbing. You're best bet is still the SC. BTW, the tranny is already being pushed against it's limits with the SC. A twin turbo setup would blow the tranny way too easily.

Hey Dave...

Keep in mind that that turbo'd 5th gen's stock clutch was barely holding on. It's no surprise that it could only put out 230+ hp to the wheels. But if you look at the torque, you'll notice it's making almost 280lb-ft! I'd love to see the reat results once ACT gets that upgraded clutch together.
